Any one got any Calgon???

Postby MandysMom » Sun Oct 19, 2014 4:32 pm

Mel's surgery a few weeks ago not only failed to close the fistula in his mouth graft but now the hole is double in size, he faces 60 trips for radiation starting Jan but starts meds in about 3 weeks which will shut down his testosterone and weaken his already osteopenia level of bone density (and he keeps wanting to climb ladders to fix stuff)!! Yesterday, while out to eat at a favorite place, son who lives with us because of disability, slipped in a large puddle on floor of bathroom at diner and injured his knee. I am trying not to stress and end up in hospital again, though nurse practitioner said Thursday she thinks I had a nearly life threatening allergic reaction in Aug not a heart problem , though she does not know to what. The large Grandma Grey squirrel is having a field day in our attic and no pest people here have the state permit to "disturb" squirrels!! The bugger had her 8 strong sons and grandsons rip off reinforced steel mesh mel nailed up there a few years ago when she and her 4 kids were there! My handyman's wife just had preemie twins and he is home caring for the other 8 children!
Calgon Please take me away! And yes I'm trying really hard to maintain a sense of humor here.

oh my goodness Velda, turn a little squirrel dog loose up there in the attic, maybe the squirrels will decide on their
own to move out. And hide the ladder so somebody dear to your heart doesn't decide he needs to help the dog.
Definitely get out the Calgon and lock the bathroom door, be sure and put a good bathmat in there so no one slips
and gets injured cause you certainly wouldn't need that, you have to think about an upcoming roadtrip to de-stress.

I have never tried to trap a squirrel but I think I would get a live trap and those squirrels would take a long trip. Leave it to the government to come up with some stupid rule about disturbing squirrels. If anyone says anything about your trap I would tell them you are trying trap wild cats.

I feel for you having 2 patients. One was all I could handle.

Try googling about the squirrels. There are ways to humanely encourage them to leave.

Sorry to hear about your hubby's issues. Sounds very stressful and frustrating! Hope things go well with the treatments tho.

Is the restaurant aware of your son's fall and injury? They are responsible for paying for any and all medical bills. My mom tripped and fell in a restaurant once and the owner was kissing her butt and paying for everything and then some, worrying about a law suit!

Take care of yourself and do what you can to relax and keep your sense of humor, as hard as that may be! Sometimes humor is the only way to get thru the tough times without going crazy!

Thanks everyone. Sometimes it's just nice to know somebody hears you and understands. Went to the diner today to see the General Manager and he said a report had already been filed with their Farmers insurance and he hoped they would call me tomorrow and to call Tuesday if they had not and he would make sure they did. Thankfully, he was very nice. Said he wanted to make it right so we would continue as regular customers. I am calling our orthopedic dr tomorrow for an appointment . Chris's knee feels a little better but he says it feels unstable. I found an old pair o crutches which is helping him get from recliner to bathroom and bedroom. I sure can't help much as he is almost double my weight.
As to squirrels, here in CA you need a permit to even trap to relocate. And I have been reading what I can find online and most so called deterrents such as odors ( moth balls) and flashing lights or sound the squirrels soon ignore! Trapping is only effective in the attic and with our truss style roof is very difficult access. We have a one way exit thing Mel made but I need my handy man to get it up there (she always pulls off only the highest roof vent, about 23 ft up on back of house where it's two story!!). This time to get in, she destroyed one vent over then pushed out the steel reinforcement righ off the nails Mel used last time. She never touches any other vents. Smart alek she is! This time we see insulation down on the ground where, she pushed it out and grass nest material hanging out the screen. I have a feeling there is a big mess. I had just walked the perimeter about June and there was no evidence of a problem so she is making a winter nest apparently.
I wish I could get away but with husbands health as well as sons, I just can't leave. I was lucky to have my best friend from the Navy, who was my matron oh honor 38 years ago, come for two nights and we had such a good visit. Thanks everyone for listening and good thoughts. It helps. Unfortunately no one can really come in to help because the health issues are more complicated than I can just explain to someone. I am so glad I can get the half mile away to Curves 3 times a week and am trying to get back regular with treadmill. It all helps but as to clearing clutter in this house I feel like I am wading through thick mud at times. we were off to a decent retirement when it feels like starting Feb 2013 life just fell into a black bottomless pit with rare rays of sun. I keep hoping together we can climb out when each time we slip and fall back.

Dear Velda, my positive thoughts are with you at this time. Thank heavens for Curves. I enjoyed it when I belonged. You do need to keep up your own strength and spirits. If there were anything I could do from afar I would do it. We are all keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. lyn

Velda, I'm so sorry you're going through such a difficult time. Maybe call your Humane Society and ask if there are any wildlife relocators that could help you. Tell them you're worried about a fire with the squirrels chewing the wires and explain about your husband being ill. Try to take a few minutes daily to do something for YOU even if its just relaxing with a cup of coffee for a few minutes.

((((((((( HUGS )))))))) Velda. I have no words that have not been spoken. I am truly sorry the surgery did not correct the problem. You do need a break, wish there was someway it could be worked out. Are you sure written instructions and maybe premade food for your hubby, that it couldn't be worked out for an occasional day away, where you could think of only you and relax ???

You have to take care of yourself, especially if you think you can't get away. Forced get away,(like hospital stay) would be worse so many ways then a planned time away.

Keeping you and yours in my prayers, Please take care of yourself,

CArol :)
