Anything special we should bring besides our axes? Just want to be prepared. Excitement is starting to build!

Laughter and smiles...... I can't make it down this early in the season but I highly recommend taking Liz up on any kayaking adventures on the Silver River, especially now that you can put in at the head waters and paddle with the current. :) It is a beautiful river paddle.

I wish I could make it over to Fl GTG for a few days, however, I will be traveling around that neck of the woods in Feb. I'll send out a query to see who is around 1-10ish from TX to FL when I leave.
Will either drive the gulf or I-10. I have kids in New Orleans and Tallahassee. I am going to try to avoid the spring break season this year and just wander after I visit the kids.
Everyone have lots of fun in Silver Springs!

Yes, like Tina said, bring laughter and smiles, campfire stories. We'll talk about what folks might want to do when we arrive. We'll plan at least one potluck and put out word for the day trippers about our plans. All suggestions welcome.

Hope to meet y'all sometime soon at another gtg. Have fun!

Pam had to cancel, so it looks like we will have a couple of mini GTGs, which can be just as much fun as a big one. Donna, are you going to be able to come any of those days?

Looks like the gtg lines up this way:
Reserved Sites:
Liz, site #10, October 19-31 (I will be there two weeks because I have some doctor appts. In Ocala during that time.)
Karen S, site #6, October 23-26
Soos, site #7, October 26-31
Oma, site #17, October 24-26

Maybes:
grammynmaggie (Donna)

Day trip:
Trixie
Dawn
MizDeb

So, Karen, Oma and I will gtg Oct. 23-26 and
Soos and I will gtg Oct. 26-31

Day trippers just let us know what day(s) will work for you, and we'll work around it and plan a potluck that day. No sense in planning a formal (do we do anything formal?) potluck unless we know there will be more than two or three of us. Walmart is just a half mile away if we need anything.

Things to do at the park:
Museum and Cracker Village (weekends)
Hiking and biking trails
Kayaking...your own or rental. I have two, so can loan one.
Glass bottom boat rides
Horseback Riding Trail rides

In the area:
Oct. 25 is the 1890's Days Fall Festival in McIntosh
Visit Cross Creek, home of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Pulitzer Prize winning author of "The Yearling."
Singing boat tour of the Rainbow River (Dunnelon)
Local museums
Ocala National Forest
Boat tours on the Silver and Ocklawaha Rivers by Capt. Tom
Canyons Zip Line & Canopy Tours

I enjoyed visiting the Appleton museum when I was there last August. Also, took the 1/2 hour glass bottom boat tour for the first time. Prefer kayaking, but the guide's information was interesting. There were daily ranger programs at the campground side and the old attraction side (river). I went to one about a blue snake they keep at the river side and a really good presentation at the cracker village. Have fun!
