Happy Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Happy Friday

Postby carolb » Fri Oct 17, 2014 4:27 am

G'morning all :)

Yahoo! Ava & Lyn having a mini gtg :D Isn't it so great to meet new friends?? I was "encouraged" to hear my family isn't the only one that can be a PITA! Overbearing & "my way or the highway"--well, especially my two sisses. We come by it "naturally," so if you ever find me acting that way, it's in the genes  We get "nice" genes from my mom's side of the family, & I've worked hard to nurture those

Ugh, Barbie! Well, at least it's OVER! CArol, glad you've noticed a difference in your eye sight already. Yes, keep up those eye drops. Martha & Carol, good to hear DH's are doing better, & your friend too Kathy. But what's up with L, Anita :? So are you traveling on your own now? ;) Speaking of "on your own," O'Sharon, you can do anything on your own--these ladies will tell you that! Well, almost anything  Beth, enjoy your day off, & then when do you finish that job to head for warmer climates--dang cold up there, eh ? :o

Got all the summer yard stuff crammed in the garage yesterday. Another step closer to leaving! Also made a few calls for flu shot, pet meds, & a new tooth to replace the one that was pulled :D

Think we've got Lori back on a regular basis--so Lori, what's for breakfast? ;) Y'all have a great day & safe travels always! 8-)

Good Morning Carol and all who drop by later. No Carol you are certainly not alone in your family differences. It is interesting how siblings can be such opposites. I keep a polite distance and try not to get too involved with mine which seems to work well. I have a close relative I only communicate with by the occasional brief text message as her life, totally by her choice, has taken such a wrong financial turn.
The weekend looks like it will be much nicer weather wise, it is hard to believe it is mid-October where did this month go!!!

I hope everyone's day has some fun included.

Good morning ladies
Lyn is still sleeping, but its early and still dark. Took
the dogs out for poddy, Casey barked at us a little but
no one barked back, so the training is working well.
Scout just loves Lyn and Casey and has figured out he
can sqeeze under the steps and the other side to get
to her camper. He's such a funny goofball. It was a year
ago I first met Lyn in San Diego and here she is in my
driveway, how cool is that? :D
We drove across town yesterday to see about a solar
system but come to find out the moved to Oklahoma
but referred us to his technican. Hopefully the guy will
call today.
Nothing else from me today, grabbing another cup of
coffee and waiting for the sunrise. Ya'll have a great
day and be safe.

Good Morning ladies... Coffee is gone... will go get my hair cut and go to Menards to get a couple of tarps and some duct tape and rope... prep for tomorrows trip to Pontiac to retrieve my motor home...
Oh Barbie so glad that procedure is behind you! Ava one of the great benefits from this site is meeting so many great people; enjoy your visit with Lyn... Carolb sometimes I could simply ignore all of my relatives especially my own children! My sisters were better but that is because I did not have a lot of contact with them now they have both passed away...
So glad CArol is doing great...
The colors are to be very good this weekend... I may take a drive on Sunday...
Have a great day everyone where ever your feet take you...
Kathleen or Kathy

Good morning gals! Slept good overnight but still not feeling real great this morning. Will take a nap during my split shift from work today. Hopefully, it will be a quiet morning at work.

A cold front moved in overnight and sounded like a hurricane with the high winds howling outside! Still windy and much colder this morning with rain predicted. Not a good "outdoor" day, so is a good "nap" day! Hoping I feel better as the day goes on.

Ava, what do you and Lyn have planned for the day? Should do something fun!

Have a good day! :D

Popping back in to tell Donna I am so glad you are getting another opinion. I think so many people are over medicated or have a wrong diagnosis. My DB was over yesterday and said he had finally talked his wife into seeing a different cardio doctor. When they went to the appointment and she showed him all her medications he said "I am surprised you are still alive" :!: He told her she wouldn't be able to even get one of the medicines she was taking refilled because it had been taken off of the market it was so dangerous. Of course the other doctor hadn't notified her of that little fact... After a review of her records he took her off of ALL the medications she was taking for supposed heart issues except for 1/2 dose of one of them and with a strong suggestion she loose weight. I have also learned with my own experience to ask for another opinion because in two different instances when I was prescribed long term medication, I sought another opinion and found both were unnecessary.

Barbie hope you feel better soon and the weather clears so you can get out.

Thanks BJ... I really never felt comfortable with the first cardiologist... if I had my thinking cap on I would have researched him in the first place he had very bad patient reviews and was not board certified... this doctor is board certified and associated with a good group and amedical facility ... it is so hard finding new doctors the new place...

Morning to all,

Slept in a little today, then got everything squared away at my friend's house and came home to do my own chores. Need to hit the stores today for a few items and the bank for cash! I love Fridays-I only have one dog and he's a real sweetie, love him lots, a big ol' GSD!

Talked to my friend Daun, she will be moved to the rehab facility in a nearby town this evening so now we know where she's going to be. I told her I wanted to bring her dog to see her once she gets settled. Another of our friends went to see her last night and surprised her; I knew she was going but wasn't allowed to say!

Barbie, glad that proceedure's over. I hope you can get some rest and recuperate now. At least it was good news.

Donna, sounds like you found a good new doctor, it's so important to feel comfortable with the ones who take care of our health.

CArol, so glad your eyes are better. Soon you will be all done with the surgery and able to see fine, I'm sure.

Carolb, I like to think of the ladies on this forum as "my Internet family". I feel closer to some of you all than I do my own relatives. I think there's dissent in any family group, sometimes worse, sometimes better, but I don't know of any family that gets along all the time.

BJ, how scary for your sil! Some of these doctors have no idea what the medicines do that they prescribe, so I always ask my pharmacist.

Kathleen, that is so very rotten that the **** insurance company won't pony up. I am so mad at them! Hope you do get to take a nice ride to see the fall colors, it's beginning to look nice hereabouts.

Ava, yes it's way cool to visit with friends from this forum! I'm glad Lyn stopped to see you!

Need to get going if I'm gonna get something done today. Thought maybe I could sleep in tomorrow, no such luck as I have something going that requires my very early attendance.

Have a great day,
Kathy

BJ, I'm with you about finding a good doctor. My DH had been having blood in his urine for at least 6 years. He went to 2 doctors and they both did the same tests and said they didn't know where the blood was coming from. The third doctor said he wasn't bleeding for no reason and set out to find out where it was coming from. If DH had messed around with the first 2 doctors for much longer the cancer would have gone into his abdomen.

Sometimes family members are hard to deal with. One of my brothers traveled for work and went all over the US. He would pass 30 miles from me and mother and not stop to see us. Then he would want us to drive 500 miles to spend a holiday with him. My other brother wrote him off. I'm glad I didn't do that because we lost him in 2000.

I need to go to Lafayette but I'm not moving very fast.

Good Morning !!! Almost noon, time flies so fast, sometimes this past year seemed forever, but this morning was thinking this is mid Oct and where has this yr gone??? Years are passing to fast. I just get used to writing one yr and we are into another. Doubt I'm alone with this problem :D

Ava, so glad Lyn was able to stop by for a visit. That is the greatest part of this sisterhood we have its always so much fun and as soon as the first hellos are said, you feel comfortable with that person. I am so looking forward to meeting you both one day. I am also looking forward to this winter down here, seeing those I know and meeting those I haven't yet.

Everyone is so busy doing or looking forward to something, same ole same ole here  With one difference right now, not supposed to do anything with too much activity, like some housework chores, no yard work allowed etc. etc. Not that I was doing much of that while at my sisters but don't we all appreciate these orders once in awhile, legal excuse to be lazy :D

Have a good week end, those who can, enjoy the color of the season. Its a wee cooler here, which is appreciated, I hear Donna's 2nd on that ;) :D Those on the road enjoy the ride, but please stay safe, Barbie, glad your test is over, those dealing with health issues you're in my prayers,

CArol :)

Just recently someone told me I shouldn't be questioning doctors (and veterinarians) as they have had the training for so many years ... blah, blah, blah. I finally had to shut this person out because she wouldn't accept that even with all that training, they are not all equal. And especially when it comes to medications, they are most likely to listen to the pharmaceutical rep that walks through the door than anything else. I remember all the years I took my Fosomax - it was touted as the best thing every for osteoporosis or osteopenia. Ha - I developed problems from it and it turns out it didn't help anything (hurt my pocketbook, also). Also, and I hate saying this, doctors of my generation, or even somewhat younger, might have great experience, but there are things they have missed as, in everything these days, so much has changed. Some keep up - hopefully most do at least in their own specialty - but from Barbie's experience with her father's doctor - I'd say too many don't. Don't you find it interesting that teachers are expected to take courses every so often - or should I say have to - but doctors earn their license to practice medicine and don't need refresher courses? Just a thought?

I'm on a tangent there ... laundry is in the dryer - have decided who I'm voting for on my ballot - found a blue pen (finally - yep, it has to be completely in blue) and will get that finished and take a drive into town to mail it off. Lousy weather day here - so that will be it for me.

I know my DH's doctor keeps up in his field. He talked to the other 2 doctors my DH saw and even invited them to view the surgery which they declined. I just hope they learned something.

I learned many years ago to question doctors and hospitals. I almost lost my older son because of a communication problem. My son was admitted to the hospital for a possible appendicitis. The doctor he was assigned to had just come from India and he didn't understand that he was my son's doctor. We spent 24 hours in the hospital thinking they were watching my son and no one was. When they finally woke up he was in surgery in 30 minutes but his appendix had ruptured.

My youngest son was very allergic to fire ants. When we would go to the emergency room the first thing they would ask was who was his doctor. Then they would waste time trying to get in touch his pediatrician. We soon learned to ask which doctor is in the hospital.

I'm sorry to say that things have not gotten much better with some of the local doctors and the hospital. If I can get someone in a vehicle we are going to Lafayette. If you call an ambulance they have to take you to the nearest hospital.

I refuse to take the medication for osteoporosis. It doesn't make any sense to take something that is suppose to build your bones and it causes jaw problems and you can break the largest bone in you leg. They also make my migraines worse so I won't take them.

My mom had an older doctor that I didn't care for. She was on a ton of meds from him. I finally convinced her to see another doctor. He was a lot younger (nice looking too!) and ended up taking her off most of the meds and was really concerned about her health and took really good care of her.

One time my mom went into the hospital with abdominal pains. They did some tests and then told us that she had pancreatic cancer and only had a few months to live. It was right before Christmas and we were all devastated! I remember looking for a Christmas card for her at Target and bursting into tears thinking it would be the last card I would ever buy her. I then decided to question the doctor (cancer specialist supposedly) before she left the hospital about any other tests that could be done to make sure his diagnosis was correct. He told me "if you really, really need to know, then there is another test that can be done at a different hospital." I said, "yes, I really, really need to know!!!" So we schedule the test and when that doctor came out to talk to us, she said she didn't see any tumor and that my mom just had a swollen pancreas from pancreatitis and that an antibiotic would take care of it. I was shocked but very relieved and of course, so was my mom! I was also very angry at the other doctor. I never let her go back to that hospital again. That was the same hospital that forgot to give my mom her alzheimers meds one time and she was a basketcase for several days until we got her back on it again. They also tried to send her home one time and she was so out of it when I went to pick her up that I asked the nurse if they had checked her blood sugar (she was a brittle diabetic) recently. She said she checked it 4 hours earlier! I had told them they needed to check her every 2 hours. She checked it right then and it was down to about 15. Not a good hospital!

Our ambulance drivers will take patients to any hospital in the area that they want to go. With my dad and my mom, they always asked me where to take them. Sometimes, the closest one is best, but other times it is better to go where their doctor was affiliated with, depending on the situation. The hospital my dad's doctor is with, is right downtown Minneapolis in a very bad neighborhood, so I usually have him taken to a closer one, and since I don't like his doctor anyways, that works out even better. :D

I have an awesome doctor! Been with her for many years and she is so thorough and always interested in what is going on in my life and takes the time to talk with me about anything I am concerned about. She is the one who really pushed me to get this colonoscopy done. Grrrr! It pays to really check around to find the right one that is not only competent but also is compassionate as well.
