Hi Donna, enjoy your overnight stay in DC. Your room is ready and will be waiting for you tomorrow. I am still in NYC at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. So moving.... Now we're off for BBQ before returning to CT. See you soon. Peggy

The train trip is over and I seen some very pretty county .but my allusion ends there.amtrak really needs to be honest with there customers. #1all other trains have priority over the tracks so amtrak has to pull over for all other trains. #2 when I bought my ticket they never said that they were replacing Track on a major part of the trip and we would be put on a bus. None of us passenger's were alerted to that u til after Denver by e mail.. this disruption of the track's involves 3 or 4 major routes.when we arrived In Chicago. According to staff this has been ongoing for 6 month's
Alford g to seral staff this disruption has been ongoing for 6 months or more. Then Chicago We were told one thing and then another about our departure on the bus. Finally we were loaded onto 3 buses and. On our way to Toledo obio. We 're already late leaving Chicago. then our Bus has a flAt tire then the other 2 buses had to go on to Ohio unload and come back k cor us when I called from the side of the freeway amtrak assured me that due to missing my connection that they would put me up in a hotel I wa.dc As. I missed the lAst. TrIn to hartford ct. Then they decided to put me on a train to new haven ct and have a taxitKtAke me to hartford.it was a mess and I got a refund on my return trip and. Flying home. So go's the Romance of the train lol

Your train trip kind of sounds like some of our rv trips with breakdowns and detours. Glad you finally made it. Hope the flight home is better. Some plane trips aren't going so well now days either.

I took the train from Fort Wayne (Waterloo) IN to New London CT at Christmas since I was unsure of the weather and did not want to deal with flight delays. Trip out went fine but on the way back we hit weather and I was stuck in Philly. Seems the train crews called in sick due to the weather and so we sat for 12 hours waiting on a crew to man the train. Passenger service in the US is pitiful compared to rail service in Europe. I rode the train from Paris to Biarritz in France and that was a class act.

But at least it was an adventure!

My basic theory is that you have to be pretty flexible to travel happily. I have had some really annoying problems with air travel and some bad breakdowns in automobiles. No trouble with trains, but that's just luck! It's always been interesting.

The train system in this country leaves a lot to be desired. Other countries have really upgraded their rail systems but we have really let ours go here. Too bad, too. It would be so nice to have a really updated system like they have in Europe, etc. Glad you got a refund for your return trip!

Have a great time with Peggy and a great flight back home!
