switching insurance

I had my insurance with Progressive last year, no complaints. Of course, I had no problems and no reason to call them. My main reason for going with Progressive is they are one of the few RV insurance companies in Massachusetts. (That's the catch, Massachusetts)
I paid in full the beginning of my year last year because I had the cash. This year is different. Then I got a call from a Progressive person who insisted that I pay full up front for the year again. She mentioned I could pay "quarterly" but that's a misstatement. They bill you 1/4 for 4 consecutive months (installments, not quarterly), and then you have paid up in full for the year. I was getting nowhere with the person and she said she'd call back in a week to go over it all again. She kept giving me the slight of language answers, and kept diverting me from asking the questions I wanted answers to.
So, I'm wondering if they would give me this nonsense if I ever really needed them!? I'm going to go with another insurance carrier if I can find one in MA. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

BTW, my back surgery went well, and I'm back on my feet.

Check Explorer RV and Hartford through AARP. Most insurance companies have a price break if you pay annually, but most also have other options.

And great to hear that the surgery went well. It is always a relief when you are the independent type, like most of us, and need to get back out here and be able to take care of yourself.....with a few less worries.

That sounds a bit strange Sharon, are you sure the call was actually from Progressive? I would call Progressive (and not a number whoever called you might have left) and talk to someone to see if maybe that was a scam call trying to get your credit card information. I always call the company direct if I feel there is something questionable happening.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't comment on your back surgery - great news that it went well and you're on the mend.

I know Kathleen just went through problems with a claim and Progressive - she's still struggling and fighting with them. Others say they love them. Progressive says they have a 4 star rating. Some review companies have different ratings - one Consumer Affairs gives them a 1. Another gives them a 2.8. That said, I'm guessing almost all the reviews on any insurance companies site will be good ones, and most on the other sites will be the bad ones. So not sure this says anything!

But I can personally say I had very good working relationships with both companies I've mentioned.

Thanks for the replies. No, I don't actually know that this call was from Progressive. I think they hired some phone bank to call about billing - I find more companies are doing that now. I do think I will call AARP and see what they have to offer.

Hope to see you on the road this year! Last year I was so bogged down with getting to know my RV, upgrading the systems, and just figuring out my lifestyle. Plus laying on my back half the time. This is going to be my leisure year!

so glad the back surgery went well
I have progressive and have had for many many years. They take the payment monthly out of my bank account.
They have never made me pay upfront or even quarterly. Whenever I need to make changes I just call the 800 #
on the card where it says claims and get a live representative and do my changes. Recently I changed the payment
date and bank account to reflect when I get my social check.

Wow Avelen, I will try to give them a call. I know companies do stuff like this, they have a stated policy but will allow something else if you get to the right people. I'll give Progressive a call. No, I'm not sure it was Progressive calling. It felt as if they had hired a call bank to see if they could get people to pay full amount up front. She was very reluctant to give out her contact info.

I have Progressive and have never gotten a call...always e-mail stuff but then I think that is what I signed up for...

I know what they offer varies by state for full timers but not sure if different otherwise but I've been happy with AARP Hartford. It was quite a bit cheaper than other companies I checked.
