first day out

Things are not going all that good... and I'm really tired so this will be short... hadn't gone. far ....maybe below Pittsburgh.. and the front end started to... shimmy and shake i talked to 3 different guys no one seems to know what it is...
I can't go more than 50 miles per hour... I'm not even half way to Winchester stop for the night
at a campground along I 79.. on top of that
a lot of construction on I 79... and one of those construction pilings.. jumped up and grabbed
the bottom bracket on my awning and broke it
I have it bungeed and wired.... hope it holds
so that's it for day 1.

Oh Donna, I'm so sorry. I think I'd have the tie rods, and front end checked, it may be out of alighenment. 50 miles an hr on interstates not good and something's wrong needs to be checked. Someone at CG may be able to suggest somewhere close.

Having awning bungeed and taped (mine) went many a mile and did good.

Get some rest, try not to worry, but do check the front end out before going much farther,

I know nothing about alignments, but I do know what it's like to have a bad day on the road. But remember - getting through this will make you stronger, and even more independent than you already are. Every little obstacle (and some not so little) that you overcome is a stepping stone. At least that's what I try to tell myself! I hope things improve for you!

oh that awful shake and shimmy of the front end, hate when that happens. It can be unbalanced tires or out of alignment,
It would be good to have it looked at.

Have the tires checked. That shimmy and shake as you hit a higher speed could be a blow out about to happen!

Tie rods usually make noise when you steer the wheel, and then they just break while turning. I would think it sounds more like alignment or tire issues.

If everything is tight in the front end, it might be an out of round steer tire. Do you turn the steering wheel while the coach is not moving? Many people do this while backing up trying to get into or out of a parking space. A car tends to be more forgiving but the heavier weight of an RV grinds flat spots in the steer tires which make the front end shake. Should always make sure the tire is rolling before you turn the wheel. It can be rolling at a "creep" but as long as it's turning you won't grind a flat spot. A class C can have 4,000# on each steer tire. A class A can have 6,000# on each steer tire.

Sometimes your steering can feel great. Make a turn and the front end starts to shake. Sometimes you can make a turn and the shake will go a way.

I once had a shimmy problem come up and found it to be that I had lost a weight off the tire that was used to balance it. Get thee to a tire store. (((((hugs))))) Hang in there, girl.

Had the exact same thing happen to me after I had new tires installed. Ended up taking it to a tire shop in Bakersfield after going 45-50 mph on hwy. 5 to get there. The tire shop removed the front tires & found that they were wayyyyy out of balance so they balanced them properly on their machine. Told me that it looked like the guy who installed the new tires did the balance by eye-balling them rather than on a machine.... ???? Stupid, stupid.............Anyway, when they were done & I drove away it was wonderful.... drove like a dream. So, I would definitely suggest you check the balancing of the tires asap before paying a lot of $$$ to a repair shop....
