Cameras

So many of you take memorable pictures that you post here or on your blogs. I'd like to get a decent camera and now would be a good time to get it and learn to use it - before I'm overwhelmed learning all the 'stuff' about the RV I hope to get in the not-too-distant future.
Was wondering what camera folks have, and if they like it, or if there's something else they recommend. Right now all I'm using is my iphone camera! I don't want to spend a fortune I it, but $300 or so is manageable. Something that would not be so fussy that I'd miss shots, but allow reasonable zoom for those mountain goats/buffalo everyone loves to snap as well as close up for wild flowers, etc. (Guess I want it all - so what's new.).
BTW, if I've missed a former posting on this subject, don't mean to be duplicative - just point me there - thanks!

My camera, which I love, is no longer being made, so I'm not sure what my next will be. That said there have been several threads about cameras and I just searched for the most recent here:

I'm sure others will speak up about what they have and like.

Beth - thanks for the link and the mention of doing a search by topic - just didn't even think to do that - duh.

I checked the Manhattan WalMart for the Canon SX50 and it was marked down to $349.99...... Under 350 (yeah, right!) was sorely wanting it. But am wanting another solar panel so if choosing between another panel and a newer toy...the panel wins hands down. Sure would like to play with one for a week or so.

Been looking for a new camera myself lately. The screen on my 10+ year old Sony is going bye-bye. Shopped a bit, and picked up the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70 today.

It had the best zoom (60x) for a point & shoot. Can't do the heavy / changeable lenses anymore. So much to play with on this one. Can't wait to really try it out. May need to take another 1 hr brush up class, since that last class I took was eons ago and there is so much more on this camera.

Price $299 at a good old fashion camera store (boy are those hard to find nowadays).
