First Time at Walmart

Decided to stay at Walmart in Great Bend, KS. Pulled back by the automotive area; thought it would be more quiet. Note to Self: If you see a couple of forklifts DON'T park anywhere near them. In the middle of the night a guy comes out and starts up one of the lifts. Flashing lights, backup dinging, drives around in a small circle, parks it and gets in the second one and does the same thing. Also VERY well lit by the store. Also apparently parked where the employees come outside to chat (loudly) and smoke (think rig full of smoke). So its about 2:30 am and I get in driver's seat and move rig to a quieter, darker and more peaceful area.

Think I will stick with my church parking lots. School parking lots are also nice on a weekend. My favorite churches are the ones with big parking lots out in the middle of no where.

Sorry about all the noise. Using Liz's advise about Wal-Mart parking, you should always stay along outer edge of parking lot, not near the building. See you later today.

That didn't sound like fun.
My first overnight at a Walmart was one weekend before the 4th of July. They had a huge tent setup with generator & lights on all night long.
Good thing was I felt very, very safe. Bad thing was I got very little sleep.

Things should be calmer at the lake....

Our first, and only so far, stay at a Walmart was in Medford Oregon several summers ago when we had the huge D batteries in our bus decide to go bad on a Sunday. Spoke to the manager who assured me it was fine to stay in the parking overnight. It was an adventure. A very strange assortment of vehicles and people through the evening and night. A big old sedan with what husband counted like 8 people in it, sat all night and periodically a car would pull along side and a "conversation" would ensue, possible stuff exchanged then the car would leave. Many cars through the night. A couple in a van pulled into a spot and pulled out the BBQ and fixed supper, washed dishes, dumped water in bushes then crawled in van to sleep. Several other RV's varying from newer to on their last legs. Interesting bunch for sure. Glad to catch a few hours of sleep in our bus then jump start in morning and get to Interstate and buy new batteries and head north to a bus rally.
Here in Roseville there is NO overnight camping allowed in parking lots anywhere. City voted it illegal a couple of years ago they said because they caught men bringing in RV's and prowling for women. Sad but our region(mostly Sacramento) is known for sexual exploitation trade. But it sure would be nice for people to be able to rest overnight since there is no other place in town to stop except the out of the way Placer County Fairgrounds.

WalMart can be an interesting experience, but the majority of my stays have been uneventful.

Interesting that you stay in church and school parking lots, Karen. I always figured those were private property that came with a possible knock on the door to move.
