Sunday Morning in Van Riper State Park

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday Morning in Van Riper State Park

Good Morning from the U.P.

Settled comfortably in my site here in Van Riper State Park. This is a nice park, been here many times as it's near the resort I also stay at up here and many times come down with dogs to walk around. Quite a few empty campsites this weekend. This park is about 30 miles west of Marquette and a lot of the local population of Negaunee and Ishpeming, about 20 miles up the road, camp here, so it's like being in with a big extended family as so many know each other. As was, I was invited over to join a couple by their fire last night and not long after we were joined by the campground hosts. A lot of people were waving on the way up and down the road. It's one of the reasons I so love this area of the U.P. The friendliness of the people.

I checked in here yesterday and came sailing in and set up camp, then remembered I forgot to stop at the dump station and add more water to my water tank  Can't believe I did that. But doesn't matter as I have water left from Copper Harbor, as I was getting jugs of hot water straight from the tap in the laundry room to wash dishes etc. while I was up there, so wasn't really using much water from my 20 gallons. It's a bit more than half full and I'm right near the facilities here as well.

Cloudy out this morning and looking like rain is moving in again. It hasn't been the greatest week in terms of camping weather. Have seen about maybe less than 24 hours of sun all week. Otherwise cloudy, muggy and damp or just plain cloudy. Tomorrow we will be heading for home to unload and give this TT a good cleaning inside and out, then get ready to roll again. But next trip will not be extended, probably a few days closer to home. Sassy is doing okay this week on this trip, but I can see where she is slowing down and it's getting more taxing on her physically. Her poor old body is wearing out. She is probably going to be glad to get home to her familiar house and nice soft carpeting again, so she can rest. She sleeps pretty much all day and isn't really up to long walks anymore.

Will be heading off to church in a bit here and not sure what the afternoon is going to bring. Might work on scrapbook or whatever. Was hoping to rent a kayak for awhile, but not with current weather. Will probably make a final stop over to Maple Ridge as well.

Sarah, glad to hear Nicky seems to be feeling better. Poor baby. Surgery is hard on our fur kids especially when they have it twice. Will pray for good news on the biopsy.

Have a wonderful and blessed Sunday everyone.

good morning ladies
I've been up for a few hours, can't believe I've consumed a whole pot of coffee already :o  <----me
wondering if any of our girls are in the san fran area and felt the earthquake. Guess it was the biggest one
since 89. Hope all are safe.
My muscles are just a tad sore today from yesterdays pulling weeds and raking. Didn't think I did that much :|
Made a big pot of spaghetti last evening for dinner and have leftover to last me a few days. Haven't had good
spaghetti in a very long time. Only thing missing was the garlic bread but I'm thinking of the heartburn I saved
myself. :P Next time I'll remember the garlic bread.
Had to chuckle at Maggie this morning, the kitty ventured ACROSS the street while we were sitting outside and
Maggie just whining away at her, but of course when someone comes by on their early morning walk the
kitty runs for the door! big scared y cat
Time to get the dishes done from last night, then guess I'll drag the vacuum out and that chore will be done for
the week.
Ya'll have a great day and be safe.
Somewhere with Ava and Maggie

Good morning Sue, Ava and all who follow...
Just stopping by this morning since I am a total dufus and went to work an hour too early this morning  We don't open until 10am on Sundays  Darn! Could have slept in a whole 'nother hour! Good think I live so close to work.

Looks like it is clouding up here now. Supposed to be really hot (mid 90's) and muggy with storms today (but they have been saying that for the past three days and it has been cool and nice!).

Haven't heard about the earthquake yet. Will have to check that out...

Two more weeks before I head up north on my Lake Superior trip! Won't need to pack much this time since I am renting a cabin. Just my suitcase and camera! :D Gotta get my license tabs and an oil change before I go tho. Maybe I can do that tomorrow on my day off. Playing the second half of our golf tournament tomorrow afternoon too! Should get there early and practice some. I have a decent chance of winning since I played well last week! :D

Had both ferrets in the same cage last night and they did pretty well together. Will do that now only when I am home so I can supervise them. Hopefully, Moose will not harass Chelsea now when they are together in the same cage. He has calmed down quite a bit now (altho he was chasing Lola Kitty all over this morning! She wasn't too happy about that). He doesn't play mean, he is just so exhuberant and big, that he can accidently get too rough sometimes.

Hoping Nicki is doing better today.

Have a good day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Just got up, and heard about the earthquake. Both of my (adult) children live in the Bay Area, am waiting to hear from them with fingers crossed.

Checking in from San Francisco Bay Area. I was woken up by the earthquake this morning about 3:20 am and my master bath glass door was rattling hard. At the time I thought it was my cat pawing at the door which she does occasionally and didn't realize it was an earthquake. Quite a lot of damage in and around the area of the quake - buckled roads, structural damage to some older buildings, car ports collapsed, some mobile homes in a 55+ community burned from broken gas lines and some damaged and moved off their foundations. One picture on the news showed an offset of about 1 1/2 feet on a white line on the road, a buckle at least a foot high, and cracks up to 4-5" wide and visible down about 10 feet. A number of water lines were broken which is really bad in this drought. The epicenter was about 50 miles from where I am and no damage here as far as I know. Appears most structural damage was to older buildings rather than those built more recently under strict requirements. Apparently a small child was critically injured by a falling fireplace and has been transferred to a children's hospital by helicopter. A few others in critical condition. The rest are walking wounded currently at about 87 with lacerations and other treatable conditions. They expect a significant number of aftershocks. There have been 5-6 so far smaller in scale. This earthquake was not on the famous San Andreas Fault, but rather near the Napa Fault which the USGS says is capable of quite strong quakes as shown by this current one at 6.0.

Good Morning, Well it is still morning here and it is a better morning weather wise than yesterday. Could actually breath outside at seven as opposed to yesterdays horrible start with extreme heat and humidity. It stayed cool (low 80's but lower humidity) long enough that I did some grocery shopping, made breakfast, washed and froze some really sweet seedless Concord grapes and just finished fixing deviled eggs. Whew, all that in addition to feeding the dogs and taking everyone for a walk. We are supposed to have another 105 day though so doubt I'll not be going out again until dark.

Sarah so glad to hear you were finally able to get Nicky to eat and drink a little last night. I hope he is much improved this morning. Anne hope you hear from your children soon and that they are alright.
Barbie have fun on your camping trip, glad you are renting a cabin! I worry about you in the tent the possibility of bears around. Sounds like you are enjoying your road trip Sue. Ava now you have me hungry for spaghetti!

Sandi, just read your post, glad you are ok but you must have been really frightened when you woke up! So sorry for all who were injured and whose homes are damaged.

Glad to hear you are okay Sandi! Hoping you have heard from your children by now, Anne.

Still in North Platte enjoying quiet and getting things done. Will stay here until Friday. Weather isn't as hot here as at my daughter's in Kansas. Forgot about holiday weekend coming up and this is not the place to boondock so not sure what I'll do yet. If I'm going to boondock, I might as well do it at my aunt and uncle's farm. Electrical there is too old to hookup to - EMS does not like it! Can spend days in their house with a/c!

Glad to read you are ok in your area Sandi! But sad to see so much damage to historical buildings in old Napa.

I just noticed that my grandmother clock in my entryway stopped at the time of the earthquake. Must have been enough shaking her 50 miles away to knock the pendulum out of whack.

Heard from my daughter, son not yet - sure he is fine, he is not near Napa.

Hopefully JudyJB's kids are ok - I think she said they live somewhere in the Bay Area.

Thanks to everyone for asking. :-)

I've been checking off and on today for word from Judy also. Glad others have checked in and are okay.

Huntsville, Al is almost 2000 miles from where the quake hit but the shocks hit here 6 minutes later (no, I didn't feel anything). Article link:

Nicky is doing well. Eating and drinking water again; walking a bit better.
