Some of you probably read last month about my solar panel being stolen (or blown off) on my recent trip. I vowed after trying to deal with my insurance company (Allied, a Nationwide company, and one of a number of companies offered under the Good Sam umbrella) that I would switch companies. I was extremely disappointed with the service and the fact that the people I had to deal with regarding the loss seemed to know nothing about MH insurance even though I had a MH policy. I decided then and there to find something better. I ended up going with Progressive and saved $263/year with the switch. There's a fellow I met on the IRV2 forum back when I bought my RV and he had bought the same model just 3 months earlier even though his was not new and mine was. We sort of supported each other as complete novices when it came to RVs and RVing. When I told him my story of the solar panel, I found out he had covered his RV on his regular car policy. I suggested he check out some MH-specific policies with other companies. Today he emailed that he had switched both his MH and motorcycle to Progressive, will be saving quite a bit and is very happy.
So I just wanted to let everyone know about my dissatisfaction with the companies Good Sam refers people to and that even though I haven't had any claims with Progressive, so far I'm quite satisfied. It's so hard when you're a novice at all this, so I hope my experience will help others to really shop around before they decide who to work with and don't get pulled into thinking just because Good Sam recommends them that they're any good.
