BJ & Kathy - glad you are both OK. Was worried about you last nite Kathy, heard your area got hit pretty hard.

Forgot to mention ~~~ about 3 minutes after the tornado sirens went off, my NOAA radio turned to nothing but static and the message 'SIGNAL LOST'. So what good is a NOAA radio if you can't hear anything :? I figures Lewis University had some major problem. I think NOAA transmits from there and it would have been in the bad path of wind, etc.

Grammynmaggie, check to see if your phone has automatic updates turned on as that can eat your data without your knowing and Verizon should have had you check that. When I got my new iPhone I did a bunch of reading online to see how to reduce data use age and that was a primary reason it said for excess data usage for people who were not users of videos and movies. I also have mine set to use wifi when available as that does not use up data.

Thanks Velda for that information.... but it is not my phone I'm having problem with
I have unlimited data on that grandfathered in. and I don't want to lose it... it is my verizon jetpack
but I use on my computer that is the problem eating up data... but your information is good to know for the future.. and maybe someone else will benefit from it also..

I wonder if now that video's play automatically on FB, if that would eat up the data?

Yes Vicky you have a very good point... I was just thinking about that yesterday
when trying to research why I was using so much data... and I truly believe that is one reason
I don't know why they started doing that but it irritates me very much...... so I started scrolling down before I start reading any post
so that I can turn them off..... this is a pain but I hope it helps..

Hi all,

Sorry I missed the orange rolls this morning. :(

Extreme weather continues to go north of Kansas City. We had some thunder, lightening, wind & rain, but it passed quickly & we were never in danger. Friends in Liberty, MO (just north of KC) spent some time in their basements though. Sounds like IL got hit much worse. Kathy, glad that you're safe.

Donna, do you know how to see if windows or other programs are going out to get updates automatically? While we typically control the updates at work, I know there are some common programs that pull down ALOT of data for updates - like google, yammer, skype, etc.. The other thing to consider (which is something you probably already do) is to disconnect your laptop from your hotspot connection if you aren't intentially using the internet. Someone at work was so entralled with having a VPN connection (a way to connect to our work network from home) that he left his laptop connected to his hotspot all weekend. It proceeded to download updates & constantly checked for emails causing him to go drastically over his limit. Needless to say he was mortified & now understands to only connect to his hotspot if he wants to send or receive his emails or needs to do something that requires files on our network.

Excited for everyone headed towards the Oregon GTG - looking forward to pics. :D

Well, it's a little late for morning - better figure out dinner.

That's a superstition that if the first thing you say on the first day of a month is Rabbits you will have good luck. That's something Soos started.

I like your name, BurninDaylight. That's what I think every time I stop on a trip, I'm burning daylight. lol My sister always wants to stop for a meal instead of just having a quick sandwich and that kills me.

When I was younger and we water skied every Sat and Sun morning, we went early in order to get smooth water before the lake got busy. First one up would hollar out "Get up we're Burnin Daylight". That is now the name of my classic Glastron show boat.

Somewhat frustrating afternoon fighting with computers: problem with a plug-in (I think) on one of them and noting I've tried, like reloading Adode, has helped. Other problem with Quicken 2007 Mac: a red bar has popped up in the register and I cannot find out why or what it means. Have read just about everything I can find on-line to no avail.

Finally gave up for a while and ventured out in the heat to a little farmers market. Sure I bought too much but at least it is all healthy stuff - peaches, blueberries, raspberries, squash, cucumber, tomatoes.

Joint exercise group must have decided they might as well contribute to the loud bangs early for the 4th with a Raven's Challenge (RC) exercise today. For those who don't know about these exercises (most people do not unless they live near one of the bases), here's a little info:

The Raven's Challenge interoperability training events focus on live fire bomb disposal scenarios, cross-training between
Military Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Public Safety Bomb Squads (PSBS) with integration of new bomb disposal technologies. This is a National level training exercise involving simultaneous training events across five states (todays event).
This training exercise, hosted by ATF in partnership with the FBI, DHS and the DOD will involve bomb squads from across the 5 states plus a maritime participant. Military bomb disposal teams from the Army and Air Force at JBLM, the Navy from Naval Region NW, Washington National Guard, Canadian Defense Forces and British Army will integrate and cross train with their State, local and International partners. In addition to the interagency exchange between bomb disposal units the training event will provide leadership at the local, State and Federal levels the opportunity to exercise their decision making processes during a crisis.

Needless to say, Nicky not all that thrilled at booms and extra helicopter noises. All seems quite again now.

Off to watch NCIS, NCIS-LA two of my favorite shows after Criminal Minds.

I love those farmer's markets, Sarah. Hope to find another good one before leaving Oregon.
