Needed: Your opinion on birthday date.

My first GD was born on Leap Year Day, Feb 29, 1996. I differ with her Mom as to when her birthday should be celebrated. She says today, the 28th. I say tomorrow, March 1st as she wasn't born on the 28th but the day after. I'm curious as to which way you think.

Either one - doesn't matter - as long as she isn't forgotten :) But what I think is more common is the 28th - at least that's what the couple people I know who were born on that day use for their bday except leap year.

For someone who died on the 29th - we're using the 28th for the memorial.

Again, - it really doesn't matter - although, I suppose if you wanted to be technical, look at what time of day the birth occurred and take the day it comes closest to. (I think you'll have to go along with whatever Mom does, tho :) ).

Oh, I've learned years ago not to argue with her Mom. Guess I was just hoping for someone, anyone, to be on my side this year. :?

I have to ask what's on the birth certificate for a birth date?

I have a cousin that was born on Feb 29th, the doctor put the 28th on the birth certificate.

But yeah I would have to go with Feb 28th too.

now I never even thought of that, just thought the person only got a birthday
every 4 years, so I guess I'd celebrate on the 28th but then technically they
aren't a year older until the next day, :?

It really isn't important which day you do,... just do celebrate. Certainly not worth an arguement about. It's a happy time, not for tension. I like the idea of two presents..... good idea Zeee!

Oh, my GD's birthday doesn't get forgotten. :D This isn't about her, it's a power play between my DIL and me.
I'm sure the birth certificate says the 29th. From the way you all are leaning, I think I'm going to have to concede! ;)
Thanks for your input!

I think I would be worried about the birth cert!!

My aunt said one of the reasons the doctor put Feb 28th on my cousins was so that it wouldn't goof her up later in life as proof of age.

Now how the he77 does that work. Legally you would only have a birthday once every four years. You grow older but your legal age doesn't? You might actually year wise be 20yrs old but your birth cert says you are 5???? It might sound nuts???? But think about it. Cause you just got to know some dumb officious/pompous governmental bureaucrat somewhere be it the IRS or SSI office is just gonna make her go postal in frustration later in life.

I never heard of the birth certificate being fudged - would think that would be illegal - as the 29th is a legitimate day- and when she was born. I'd wonder about that doctor. Hasn't been screwing people up for all these years.
