Soos, for those of us short - 120 can be scary - it's all relative - and relative to height.

Sparkle, there is almost always at least one of the scales that's for sale out of it's box at Wal-mart (or other stores) as people want to see/try one before purchasing. I own a scale. But it isn't working properly. Tried changing batteries, and that didn't work, and am going to fiddle with it again. If it still won't work, it's going in the garbage and I'll be back to using stores to weigh myself. Works for me :)

Had my Thursday weigh-in this morning. I'm down just over 2 lbs for the week.
Now the hardest part for me. Tuesday I'm starting stabilization. Each week I'll be given more foods to add to my list, and of course more calories as I'm only on 1000 a day now. To stay at 155 I'll learn how to maintain a 1550 cal a day diet.
Today at noon they are having a cooking class which I have been looking forward to.
So how have you gals been doing? Keep up the good work! You can do it!

OMG, I wish I could have 1550 calories to maintain :) At 5' tall - I can't have more than 1000 or so calories a day when I'm bad lol. I didn't mind being short most of my life, but when it comes to eating, I mind it lots. I envy you those 1500 calories.

Speaking of which - I've always been a believer that any of the diets (low carb high carb, etc) can work - but that the most important thing is calories. All the new studies are saying the same thing - it doesn't matter. And the best news - is that if you do a diet based on calories, you can eat carbs or not, according to if you want them - just in limitations with your allowed calorie intake. (Like please, never tell me to take chocolate or ice cream out of my diet. Just let me limit how much of either I eat :) )

Good luck all. I don't expect to lose this week - am just working on maintaing and not gaining more right now. Will do more to work on losing when I'm back on the road.

So far I'm doing pretty well (not perfect) on my low fat/no sweets diet and have increased daily exercise. The effort is showing some results on the scale, but I'll wait until Monday for an official 1 week result. I am grieving for chocolate however, because unlike Beth, if I start, I crave it more and can't seem to limit myself. Once I've reached a little below my goal I will allow myself some leeway there as long as I keep an eye on the scale and adjust my eating behavior accordingly.

HAHAHAHA!!!!! I'm sure you would beat me severely, Sparkle!!! Beth set me straight about the long and the short of it when it comes to weight! 120 pounds to me sounds like a stick figure, but I forgot about the height factor! I never thought of Beth as being short....must be her commanding and positive attitude-----but always thought of her as at least my height, which is 5'7". You are probably about her height?

I won't get on a scale now until Saturday morning, which will be one week from my first weigh-in. With little to no skiing this week, I don't expect miracles, but I DO expect to have not gained anything!

P.S.----I see that the 'hand' is still there, Sparkle, in spite of promises to remove it!

Oh, I think I'll be weighing myself like that. I wonder what they'll say at Walmart when I lie down on the floor in the aisles?

Hi friends! I'm so glad to see everyone doing so well. For me, my week has been a bit chaotic, being on the road. Oh, I know that's no excuse because several of you are too!

Thanks for good laugh Liz.

And Beth, I think it would be excellent to have a "fitness" room to talk about our weight loss journeys, programs, recipes, ideas, workouts, whatever.

Keep up the good work, now I'm inspired for the rest of the week!

I have successfully lost weight several time in my life. It is the getting started part that is difficult for me. At some point it is as if a switch is thrown and my cravings quiet down and most important my body seems to thrive on the energy of not feeling bloated, etc. and then I can cut the calorie intake. I know that my portions become to large from way back in my youth when I worked at a riding stable and taught and ran around all day and actually burned up the calories! I have tried to figure what part of my habits come from stress eating, emotional self defeating stuff. I just know it is doable and know that the older I get the more difficult it is. I just haven't been able to scale back this week so Monday may not be pretty but I have at least been stead. The scariest, scariest thing to me is how easily and how fast I can put pound on when that internal switch gets thrown the other way......I did read an article about binge eating disorder recently that sounded too familiar.....In all, I can identify with the Alcoholic and the lack of control thing.....only cold turkey on food is frowned upon.........

Does anybody remember how many calories we burn just by being? Our heart pumping and lungs breathing in and out burns up a certain amount I know, just can't remember the figure.

There was a blurb on TV yesterday about some fancy medical think tank studying all kinds of diets - high carb, low carb, grapefruit, liquor (hum), water, protein, etc well you get the idea. Their conclusion the best diet is.......drum roll......EATING LESS - duh who would've thought.
Thats the kind of diet I should follow - especially when it come to Ruffles chips. Its getting so bad when I turn over at night my belly follows later.

Sparkle----two calories per hour, I think!

Carol...how well I know that feeling! Roll over, drag belly as you go!

Oh dear...I am sore afraid (what in heavens name does that mean, anyway---it's from the Bible?) to weigh in tomorrow. If I have gained this week, I will probably be tempted to binge binge binge!

Maybe I'll just drink supper tonight and skip solid foods! Being afraid is bad enough, but being sore at the same time????????

Carol, that was a visual image I didn't need!
Oh come on, Soos, surely it takes more than that to keep my heart pumping! Have a little mercy!
