Last of Mazatlan - Moving On

We have left Mazatlan but thought I'd share a few last pictures from there with you. One day we drove south about 40 miles to the town of Rosario to visit the church there. After we got there found out it was built in 1933 AND the "gold" altar was gold painted. But interesting - drive was fun to. Through agave fields, corn and tomatoe fields and mango orchards. Also tobacco - first I'd seen that.

Traffic jam - these little taxies are called "Pulmonias" which means pneumonia!
We loved Mazatlan and would recommend it to all. A very clean and friendly city. Historic areas and very modern areas and everything in between.

I loved seeing the church, especially inside, its so pretty. Now the smiling pigs, were kind of a surprise, the other pictures are so pretty and colorful. Interesting how they have them laid out in their market though. Sure would put me off buying porkchops I think, I liked your song title LIz

That market looks considerably more hygienic, with or without smiling pigs, than it did when I last visted it maybe 15 years or more ago. Then, the whole place smelled of the butchering that was done there in the open air with flies all over the meat. Add fresh fish and other odours and it was pretty overpowering! We were afraid to eat anything! My younger son was 10 and found, just outside the market, in the dust, surrounded by street beggars (some were children with amputations on little wheeled wagons), several out of date Mexican coins that he treasures still (he is now mid 20's). I think the three or four coins in total were worth less than 1/100 of a cent LOL but are very pretty!!

Have really enjoyed being made privy to your Mexican adventures!!

I've come a long way from the days when I had trouble buying meat - today I could actually get a kick out of the smiling pigs.
