Thyroid meds make a difference!

Postby Sunseeker » Sat Feb 21, 2009 5:40 pm

Here is my 10 1/2 year old (formerly almost lame) beagle, Molly...RUNNING on the beach with her sister Sami! God bless the young vet that decided to test her.

Now she can enjoy the rest of a long life. Sometimes the right vet is all that is needed to turn things around. So glad for you.

So Molly's lameness was related to thyroid problems? Amazing. I would have never thought of that. So what is the remedy? Thyroid meds, or something to stop thyroid production? Did she have to much thyroid hormones, or too little?

She sure does look happy on that beach!

Congratulations ....Life on the beach is goooood..... As much as I have had good relations with my previous vet after going back to work at a vet clinic (as a receptionist) last year, I will seek the same 2nd option that I would for a child (though seems less often for ourselves). Animals can tell us a lot about what is going on but still so much is a matter of elimination of what it isn't..... Way to go Molly....

It really lifts our spirits to see a fur baby recover. Way to go Mollie!

Nasoosie, the level was too low. The young vet tested her because she was developing (and I never even heard of this) a "rat-tail". The fur at the tip of her tail was thinning so much that you could see the black thin tail underneath. Once the meds kicked in, she was losing weight, which lead to her being more active, which lead to less joint pain and a happy, playful dog. Tommy likes to say she's 10 and a half, going on 4.

I'll pass on all the kudos from my forum friends. Thanks

Thanks, Jill, for the info. Thanks heavens for that young vet, is surely right! Like human docs, I guess it really does pay to 'shop around' once in a while! So glad to see what a difference it has made in your Molly.

My Molly sends her regards, too!

Yeah! So glad to hear that news.

Both of my predecessor dogs were tested for thyroid (high or low) levels at one time after they got older. It's amazing what the effects of either can do on dogs (well, on humans, also).

It's so wonderful to have one of your fur babies feeling better - and showing it. Great news. And a good vet is one reason I love where I'm at here - I attest the fact that I had Moxie a couple more years to the vet in Ingleside, TX who I say saved her life a couple years earlier when I came through here. Obviously it's who Peaches sees when I'm here now.
