Midwest - Flint Hills (KS) GTG - September 19-22

Let's get together!

Group Site

..

I was going to mow today, but 20 mph winds made me think better of it.

So, I got to thinking - the group site below has hook-up sites for 8 rigs and the cost for the Group Area is $80/night...
Even if you only got 4 together, the cost would be $20/night and it's right there where the majority of the group will be.
As of today, the site is available all week (I checked from Sunday, September 14).

Just a thought on a windy day.

That would only work if all the people that stayed there, were there for the same nights, plus, no discount for senior or disabled in the group sites.

Yes, it would be hard to organize, but at $80, if there were 8 people, that equals the senior discount.

The toughest part would be how long each person would stay.

Oh, well - far away is good exercise!! :)
(I sorta mapped out from Sue/CArol's area to the main area, and it's about 0.7 miles.

Can that kind of mapping be done in Google Maps? (that close together?)

I had the same thought, Mitch, but wondered how hard it would be to coordinate all the comings & goings.
It is a pretty decent walk from the other sites to where most of us will be. The group site would be convenient if we have enough interest at least for the weekend.

I'm curious; what are we planning to do about meals? Pot luck each day or ? Do we bring out own main dish and then something to pass?

As far as moving to the group site, I would be willing if all the others who are parked farther away were. But my friend and I like walking so it's no bother for us to walk down to where you all are.

Same here. I'm staying on my waterfront site. But thanks for expressing that thought about the group site. I like to walk anyway and besides, that's what I have a vehicle for. And if the weather happens to force us to use a shelter, that's close to the other end of things anyway. I think.

Food? Hmmmmm, we all want to lose weight. Maybe just skip eating all weekend or whatever. I mean, look at all the weight we would save in our rigs for traveling. Leave more room for the important stuff like wine, beer, pop......

Ginger, the ladies who have a bit more experience than I have about GTG's can fill you in on what usually goes on (course some probably arent't talked about  ) But I can tell you, there will be enough food around to feed an army.

I for one like to play with my Dutch Oven in the fire, which normally leads to plenty of food for sharing

Melissa, what are you thinking about making? I've only done pizza and cherry crumble, but I may try something this gtg. No comments from the peanut gallery, Mitch!

Yummm. That looks delicious. You know, this may be a good GTG to learn some outdoor cooking skills, especially with Dutch ovens. I haven't use one in a long time and have been interested in doing it again. Not since my Girl Scout days. Any former Girl Scouts/Leaders?Campcrafters out there?

Former Girl Scout here and yes, I do remember cooking some things in dutch ovens. Just don't remember what or how. Peach cobbler seems to come to mind. We also cooked our breakfast oatmeal in a hay hole but don't ask me how to do it. I also remember using a reflector oven but I've looked everywhere for one like I remember using and can't find it. I'd like to try some cowboy beans-had them last time I went with a bunch of people horse camping and they were good. And if Mitch isn't going to bring that chocolate lasagna, I'm bringing DIRT!

Is this what u mean?

http://www.wisementrading.com/outdoorco ... baking.htm

I wasn't planning on bringing Chocolate Lasagna...hadn't even thought about it.
But I'll go read the recipe again - maybe it can be made suitable for camping.

It was the pizza dough in the roll can, like canned biscuits.

Yep, Mitch very much like what I remember. But not at that price! Wish I had kept track of the one we used to have. Someone probably just threw it out.
