Thanks Tina. Oh, so you are thinking of getting a new rig. Must be something contagious in the air this spring. Maybe the too long winter got everybody thinking too much :)

Just wondering, who would get the prize for the longest number of miles driven to this GTG. It would be almost 1,000 for me one way.

Interesting Sue! I'll be leaving Arizona, going to Washington State, up to Alaska and then to Kansas. Do I win?

1500 miles from home (Sun City, Ca) to Council Grove, but of course I'm taking the scenic way around via Florida, so you can probably double that.

I've talked, pleated, and groveled to Ernie about going to this GTG, but he reminds me that I promised we'd do the Louisiana tour that he wanted to do last year at this time and couldn't because of my trip to the hospital.....so will have to pass this time around......so I'll be looking for the photos and stories of some of my favorite folks having fun..... ;)

Come on, Lori - convince him that you have all the time in the world, that he'd get to hang around with a bunch of really cool women, eat some great food, and show off his culinary expertise...

Hi Lori, tell Ernie we're not buying that. He's the Sultan and he needs to come to Kansas to see all the women. How will we know he really exists, if he never comes. Peggy

Hey Catherine,

Is Ft. Larned doable from Council Grove for a day trip? That's someplace I would love to go see. I've always had an interest in history and it would be nice to see some of the early pioneer history stuff. Tall grass prairie on the agenda too. Gotta watch my time though as since I've had that laser treatment on my one eye, I don't drive at night anymore. Too much sunburst effect on the lens in my eye from sun, bright lights, headlights etc.

Tina, I see you are going to be out there for a whole week. Whatcha thinking of doing on some of those days? Making plans to sight see or just loaf around?

Sue, I just did a S&T map - it's about 170 miles between the campground and Larned.
Darn - that is something that would have interested me.

Abilene is less than 2 hours away if anyone is interested in the Eisenhower Museum.

Is anyone staying in Kansas other than the GTG?

That's about a 2 hour drive roughly Mitch. It's doable. I've driven sometimes 3 hours or a bit more to go someplace for a day up here. If you leave in the morning early, you get there and have the day to do whatever and then head back home. I was kind of thinking on it as it would affect how many days I stay there and when my arrival date would be. Probably not a thing to do on the weekend as may be more traffic on roads and more people there perhaps.

I don't know Anita. I'm not sure what I am doing. Are you planning on staying someplace else?

I just mapped it on Google maps, going from Canning Creek entrance to Fort Larned. It said 176 miles (same as Mitch) & was 3 hours & 9 min. Sue, in order to make it in 2 hours, you'd be driving 88mph & no slowing down! I'll stay at the cg.
