Darn right it's hard to find space for myself in that bed.
Avalon, Schipperkes are barkers, exceptionally alert, and high maintenance generally. The are very smart, multi-talented dogs. They are herders, ratters, and excellent guard dogs. They usually aren't biters, their mission is to alert you to anything they find suspicious by barking. They key is to understand that's their natural job, and acknowledge them when they are doing it. If they are ignored or told to be quite if they think something should be looked into, they will keep barking - they think you don't understand. If you give them some attention and tell them it's all right, they quite right down. (A lot of people don't understand that, and schips and owners get frustrated with each other.) But since I'm a single full timer, I appreciate their looking after my safety and the RV. Schips are the best companions in the world for people who have a lot to give to a dog. But they like constant interaction and don't do well if left alone a lot. I've modified my life a lot for them, but I think it's worth it. - Sharon
