My last little gtg and a suggestion for Mitch

Today is my last day in FL for this trip. And look who I found (note the shirt), Nan

Nan is currently at another park about 10 miles away but it was full due to national drag races this weekend. In fact, she will be relocating to park where I am this coming weekend.
We've already been out to eat when I arrived yesterday but tonight will be a seafood buffet - may or may not get more photos.

This part is the suggestion for Mitch who mentioned wanting to put some more hook ups and a pad or two in at the Blue Marlin (BM). Check with your accountant to see if can help cover cost and get tax write off with a little business you can open and close as desired.
The little RV park where I'm staying is in middle of no where in a ladys front yard. There are 10 sites (I think) and she has units on 3 of them for rent (not part of suggestion for BM unless you want longer term company). Here is picture of my spot

and there is a small pond with seating around it (doggies could swim?)

The sites have water and electric. There is a very small bath house with toilet and prefab shower but that could be optional at BM.
The grounds are well kept. The lady who runs it looks to be in her 70s. The only advertising is that she is listed with PassPortAmerica - otherwise the world would never know the park was here. She charges $15.00 for a night. Very quite here as it is at BM.

Mitch - if you don't want outsiders, don't advertise. Bet can get enough members to drop by for a few nights to qualify as business.

Sarah I think that sounds like a great idea for anyone who has some land and of course the tax write off would be a plus.

..
I could never have strangers on my property...UGH.
For the most part, strangers are pigs.
They don't give a rat's behind how they treat others' property.
Besides, I'd have to plant trees and keep the yard up better, based on that lady's yard.
We all know that wouldn't happen!

Thanks for thinking of me, though!!!
i'll stick to my max 2-3 rigs at a time.
I'd be glad to charge $15/night if you'd like, though.

I didn't like the stranger idea either but some might not mind. And it could be a nice little business with tax advantages for some. The lady here has a couple of grandchildren in the area who seem to come by frequently to check on her. They are likely the ones who do the upkeep on the grounds.
An older couple checked in today in big class A. Otherwise just me and the couple that appear to be longer term renters.

Mrs Elixson has water, electric and sewer at each site. All sites are 30 amp, some are 50 amp. This park is call Palm RV and is located in Worthington Springs, Florida. Both my mom's and Dad's family were from this area.

Mrs Elixson has a lot of property and has people that rent from her work as she needs them. Think there is a total of about 10 sites here, some people are here permanently. It is a small country town and the RV park has no ammenities. But I rarely use all the stuff at the park anyway. I just need a place to light while I complete doctor's appointments and business before I leave Florida.

Her Passport price is $15 a night and if you stay longer she will give you a real deal. The park is in a good location because you are close to Lake City, Gainesville, Starke and the interstate. 10 to 20 miles to any of these locations. Lake Butler is 8 miles away.

I look forward to getting over there and getting settled in today. The Gator National Drag Races are in full swing and most in the park here are busy with the races..and they are full.

Many folks run little RV parks in their backyards. When I can find them, I stay at them. I just like to stay at beautiful places without the amenities other than nature. But it's a BUSINESS and most don't do it for the tax write off, they do it to supplement their income, though quite a few insist on cash only, so one can only imagine how much of that finally makes it on the books.

But it's a real business and you have some upkeep. It's the hospitality industry which means, yes, you are dealing with strangers. Most folks camping right in front of the owners, are pretty darn respectful of the property. But in the RV world and in the hospitality industry, there are some real pigs. If a backyard RV park is providing sewer and water, then there's no need to provide restrooms and many do not. They just provide sewer, water, electric and garbage disposal. Some will throw in wifi and tv, others don't.

Though I stayed in one hilarious park in a backyard and the owner had his thumb in 10 different unfinished projects scattered about. He wore overalls had a beard to his navel and a twin brother who showed up and had us so confused before we realized they "forgot" to mention they were identical twins, just to have a bit of fun with the campers. I had a friend and my dog with me. We had a blast because other than a couple in a tent in the woods behind his home, we were the only campers. The views were awesome and the long list of silly rules were lacking. He came by and told us no need to have the puppy on a string, he could roam freely for all he cared, but my little munchkin doesn't always come when called, so he had to remain on his tether, which we lengthened to 100 feet, since the owner was so accommodating.

Several backyard places told me over the phone to arrive, park and set up camp and they would eventually come by that night or the next morning to collect, it was super casual. Many times, I had already spent the night before the owner turned up for the rent. All claimed that no one had ever left without paying. Another place had a sign up to pick a site, take an envelope, write the date and camp site number on it, then slide the money (or check) in an envelope into a rusty slot in the side of a worn out barn. It was funny. Never even saw the owner and the other campers said the owner left on a vague vacation but far as they could tell, people kept sliding money into the slot in the barn.

If you are on the backroads you will run across them. Word of mouth for a lot. This one happens to be in my home area, but had never had a reason to stay here. I know the lady's family that are all here. So if you can do without all the fluff this is a great place.
