Does your state owe you money?

Postby Ackcminnie » Sun Mar 09, 2014 2:43 pm

For what it's worth, I wanted to pass along the following information. While reading my latest AARP magazine this month, an article written was as quoted " the states have sanctioned two websites to facilitate the search of unclaimed funds.

MissingMoney.com allows you to search 40 states at the same time.
Unclaimed.org allows you to search states individually. One note, it's important to check out both sites. "

I did this for myself and various family members, found legitimate money to be claimed, such as utility deposits, uncashed checks and insurance payments. I even saw my deceased aunt and uncles's name there, no one closed a checking account and it was still listed as unclaimed after they died.

The article is on page 30 of the AARP March / April 2014 magazine.

Karen, thanks for the info. A couple of years ago, I did a search and found over $500. just enough for an iPad! :D

BTW, I moved your post from the "Forum Rules" section to "General" so more people can find it.

..
I just found some money for George from his mother in IL.
I found it a long time ago and promptly forgot about it.

So, I just now filled out a claim and up pops a letter from the Illinois State Treasurer - Dan Rutherford.
If some of you recall reading before, I slept with Dan back during the Reagan campaign in 1980.
No, we did not have sex.
He had an apartment right next door to HQ and three of us would crash there during the final days of the campign - same bed, no hanky-panky.

Hopefully, it won't be too difficult to prove George was Josephine's heir and administrator and I am the same for George...

Nothing on there for me :( but I saw my cousin's name listed so I just sent him an e-mail about it. (Maybe I will get a finders fee! :P )
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I found my name several years ago and it was obviously money owed to my ex and me from the title company used in the sale of our first house. I submitted a claim for 1/2 the money, but since I had no paperwork from that sale in 1973 that showed a connection, they denied it. I gave them the date and address to no avail. Made me mad.
