Storage compartments

Just read on Good Sam that most storage compartments all have the same standard key. You might want to check this out; especially since some compartments lead right into the rig.

Many of them do and if you go into camping world to replace locks that have "frozen/rusted" up the bin is full of identical locks and keys....

I have taken to replacing my old "locks" with just the lockless tabs......It is less frustrating to me. My rig gets driving through too many salty winterized Ohio roads to have those latches last very long....

Because of those same keys I've been able to help two couples get into rigs they got locked out of. One had a baby inside. We had to use a very small child to get in through the compartment and unlock the door ( the same child who got them locked out in the first place) so sometimes it's good the locks are the same.

For the RV's that most of us can afford. Yep they are. Custom coaches are probably the exception. Likewise, if you look on the lock or your camper door there are often two key holes. If you use the top one the dealer has a master key to open the door. If you use the lower one you need the actual key to open the door.

Bottom line is campers is only designed to keep honest people honest. They will also probably do more damage breaking in then what they would actually steal. Not comforting but pretty much what will happen.

There is a major truck manufacture that only has 8 different keys to their trucks. It is not uncommon if locked out of your truck to just ask another driver of the same make to try his key. Normally after a couple of drivers you'll be back in your truck.
