What a great day. The pup was on the money with that suggestion - so much more fun than grooming.
I didn't know Fort Huachuca was open to the public. Long time since I was there but think it was still a secure base at the time.

Stuart!!! Stuart was quite the star at Fairbank, Arizona, where the lady running the bookstore admired him MUCH more and longer than we got a chance to admire the schoolhouse. Nice research, Tina! I learned stuff! Can't wait to hear about Silver City.

We've been in that area quite a few times since my sister and BIL have a spot at the Escapee Park in Benson. A beautiful area.

Thanks for all the previews. Beth and I are headed towards that area...just a little behind you. We'll be in Yuma this weekend.

Good morning Tina,
I thoroughly enjoyed your post. Yes, there were and still are Native Americans living in every state. I visited the Effigy Mounds National Park in Iowa last fall. The mounds are fascinating and I would like to learn more about them. There were mound builders throughout the Midwest, so maybe some in Ohio. Looking forward to your Silver City post. Peggy you are correct. The Mound builders were very active in Southwest Ohio. One area is quite close to our home and the Rails to Trails path that the dogs and I hike when they can get me away from the computer, etc. I think it is all the old TV shows and the "Dancing with the Wolves" movies that have fed the brain through the years that make the western vistas appear as the recognizable backdrops....of imagination and "memories"..... :?

I stopped by the Escapees Coop in Benson a few weeks ago just to scope it out. One kind lady, a resident, gave me the 2-hour tour of...everything, even the kitchen. Cute little casitas on the lots. Interesting concepts! No doubt I waved at your family at some point, Carol! :-)

Ah yes, Tina. Don't forget my faithful rendition of Chuck Connor a la Geronimo crouched high on the rocks of Cochise Stronghold in the Dragoon Mountains, movie star tanned, rifle in hand, loincloth dangling, sandy blonde hair hanging around his face, knee-high moccasins doing whatever moccasins do...encasing his legs(?), "ice blue eyes" scanning the entrance to the Stronghold to prevent those pesky soldiers from creeping in. I reenacted said scene for Tina.

Though I was fully aware that Geronino was never likely to crouch on rocks where Cochise was in charge, that's the only image that came to mind when I was there.

And don't forget, ladies, when you were at Tombstone watching the gunfight? Not only did they play the theme from Tombstone, but they played the theme from Dances With Wolves. Wrong state, wrong landscape, wrong tribes/nations/affiliations, but there ya go!

:D

I'm staying here at Fort Huachuca for a few months if you have any questions about the campground.

I really need new glasses or a new brain! I thought the title of the post was "Stuarts drive by" and wondered what kind of trouble you were getting into!

Good post! Glad the MP's didn't catch up with you.
