Three cheers for Dan!

This morning the travel trailer next to us pulled out and a big 5th wheel was attempting to pull in, this guy was really having a tough time so I told Dan please go out there and help him! Dan went out and told the guy exactly what to do and it was hard to get the guy to really listen to Dan's instructions but he did listen and was able to get the guy parked. He was really coming the wrong way to get into it.

Dan suggested the husband and wife have walkie talkies and said the husband did not have to answer her back but he DID need to listen to her commands.....Left....Right....hard left...hard right....go forward...straight back....stop! Also told the Wife to keep to the left so he can see you in his left mirror. We have a rule " If I can't see you- you cannot see me...DON"T MOVE the RV!"

The guy really thanked him and said he had never backed in before! He had ONLY gone to pull thru's!!! I came out and announced that Dan was a driving instructor and both the husband & wife smiled and glad Dan was the one who helping him.
Good Job Dan!!! woooohoooo!
Love that Man!!! :D

Clink!

It's so nice to help our neighbors and friends - I join in the toast to Dan.

Yes Cedar that is one of the reasons why Dennis Hill pleaded with Dan to come aboard with the Driving school! Dan is a very quiet guy and a excellent instructor as was with his job in Seattle. When he retired all the driver's gave him a HUGE party to say thanks for being that calm person in the control tower to help them out of a jam and get help to them quickly!

And no he did not teach me to drive, our friend Jerry Ray who has been with Dick Reeds driving school taught me...I can and I will I just choose not to...silly me RV control phobic! Now if ya tell me to go park it I can and do a great job...go figure!! lol

I love that------- I have done that to Gary also------I was on a hill--- & could see him walking around & around & around the camp site at the park----looking & looking & looking----then when he went back down to the lake--- I moved it back in the same spot again----- & pretty soon he came back & he never said a word about not being able to find the RV & I didn't either-----!!!!

Yeah, Dan!!! Ernie & I have that "If I can't see you, you can't see me....." rule, too......Don't have walkie-talkies, but since both of us have military driving training we got hand signals.....now, I've modified this to add "my side" "your side" calls cause I'm not good at the hand signals, but it works.... ;) ;) lol....

Dan and I have been doing hand signals for 13 yrs and we keep it simple so we do not confuse each other and we have gotten lots of compliments from others because we are not screaming at each other and we do it very calmly. We use the walkie talkies when I disconnect the Jeep and go scouting for a big campsite or when we are caravanning with others.

Yes ...Jill is right, Dan went off to Canada fishing with his buddies doing that male bonding with Trout and here I am in a site where I cannot get either satellite in so I packed everything back up brought in the slides and then I got my friend Ann ( who does ALL the driving in her Alfa Seeya...hubby not allowed to drive for health reasons) told her to "show " me how to bring up the jacks and build up the air bags. I took that step for granted when DH did it. Then with her guideing me I moved the motorhome to a better site, set everything back up including the front screens on the windshield and front windows and then put out the awnings and put up both satellites. Took me longer to set up the satellites than to take everything down-move-set back up!!
But I got it all down so I'd have the TV and puter on by myself. Some guy walked over to me and said I did a great job and wished his wife would learn to do that. So it did make my Day. I have never driven the Seeya by myself down the road but I did drive the Tropi-Cal by myself to the shop one day. Dan just kept telling me I know you can do it, Jerry taught you well!

I still lack confidence and that is because I do not drive more often like I should. My friend Diane & DH are arriving soon and she loves to drive Her Dutch Star.

Good for you Jennie, just because you DON'T, doesn't mean you CAN'T. But don't tell Dan you did it. Let him think your friend did cause you won't have any excuse not to be sitting in that driver's seat. carold

May all the Dans out there have nothing but sunny days. Serious - maybe someday we'll catch up to you and Dan can teach me to drive the SeeYa - I'm scared to death to try. But I know I should learn - Bill takes the thing places I wouldn't take my car.

Well, I hate to say it, but I would probably do the same thing if I had a man around to drive my MH for me. However, it is just me; so if I want to go camping, I have to drive it. And if it is a back-in spot, then I have to back it in. (Thank heavens for back up cameras!) I think some of you women just underestimate yourselves. Heck, if I can do it by myself, then there is no reason any one of you can't. Not that I wouldn't like to have someone to help out with the driving and hooking up and unhooking, etc. But I'm not going to let the fact that I don't have help stop me from going.
