Phoenix-area GTG Feb 8-12 Usery SP - Lunch on Sunday

Let's get together!

With all that has been happening, I was not ready to commit!

I will be coming Saturday for one night. There are no sites but for $10 I can park in the overflow by the front gate.

Not a food person, but I do have a big bottle of wine and snacks.

Tina, their reservation system leaves a bit to be desired! They showed a site available and when I went to reserve it, they said it wasn't available so made a phone call.

Ok, I am confused but that is easily done so just thought I'd ask to make sure. Is the GTG on Saturday, February 8th or Sunday February 9th? I ask because I read where Judy mentions renting a car on Sunday to go visit her brother and take a trip but then earlier it was mentioned that we were having the GTG on Sunday with nothing going on Saturday when one of the ladies (sorry, name escapes me now) is going to be there. Please get me out of the land of confusion.

The GTG is Sunday and Sheila (snowball) will be there on Saturday. Judy is renting the car on Sunday but will be in the area a few days to use it.

Clarification: Lunch is on Sunday, Feb 9th., around 11:30 am, but come over earlier if you want to.

I am renting a car, but the car rental place is not open until Monday, so will get one then. I will be in the SP from Friday, the 7th until Friday the 14, leaving early in the morning.

For those of us staying for more than the one day, there are lots of things to do around that area. SoCalGal, Birdbybird, Karen, and Olive will be there through the 12th. I was planning on driving the Apache Trail one day and also visiting the Boyce Arboretum, so anyone is welcome to come along. There is also the Heard Museum. There are also lots of nice walking or hiking trails. (I don't know when I will be visiting my brother, but can work that around things. I am not spending a lot of time with him.)

Since Snowball (Sheila) is coming on Saturday instead of Sunday, we could go out to lunch someplace nearby, if anyone is interested. I don't know what time she is coming or how long she is staying. Sheila, can you fill us in?

I spent today at the Desert Botanical Gardens, but if you have never been there, I highly recommend it. Right now they are having an exhibition of Chilully's art glass, which is sprinkled throughout the grounds.

Any other suggestions? Or would someone like to help plan another potluck on another day--maybe Monday or Tuesday?

Thanks for the clarification. I'll be looking forward to meeting you all. I'm not sure how long it takes to drive from here but I'll try to be a little early as I'd like the chance to visit a little.

Oh Sheila I am so bummed that you can't be there on Sunday. When do you leave the Q? I do have a couple of weeks this month when I could come visit for a day. Plan right now when I leave here is to head back to Texas and get residency then head west from there so should be headed that way around the middle of April.

I have to work on Sat so there is no way I can come up as I won't get done before 1:30.

I will bring something to fill in the menu.

I will have two parking spaces in Site 48, and it looks as if SoCalGalcas will also have a couple of parking spots in Site 50, which is very close, so just drive over and park in one of those spots!

Sheila, if you already paid for the tags and are just waiting for them, your in the state computer as being legal. I know a gal who drove a
truck for a whole year while her partner was in afghanistan cause the tags went to the wrong place and only he could straighten out the
address mishap. Is your grace period over on the tags? Will miss seeing you on Sunday but I'm still gonna take a trip to Q sometime before
the weather turns overly warm. :D

I LOVE Chihuly but seems like I was just at the Desert Museum with Ava and Beth. Anyone going to the Heard Museum on Monday or Tuesday?

Chihully and the Botanical Gardens is much different than the Desert Museum, in my eyes anyway. The desert museum was more like a zoo with lots of walking. I was exhausted that day. The botanical gardens is less walking and lots of different gardens with everything labeled. I went to the Chihully exhibit last time and I'm told this time it has an evening/night lighted exhibit that is
just fabulous. Wish I could fit it into my plans right now, but (sigh), it is not to be. Hope you get a chance to go.

Retiredhappy, I definitely want to go to the Heard Museum and Tuesday would be good because I will have a car if you do not. I have been there twice but it is a great place to go and want to go again. They have a nice little restaurant there, also.

I have never been to the Boyce Arboretum, but want to go there, as well.

(I am taking my brother on errands on Monday, per our phone discussion last night. He is notoriously unreliable and has a lot of other problems, but I will insist on sticking to that day. Long story, but he is partly disabled and paying the physical results of a lifetime of substance abuse.)

I'll be at Usery until Friday morning anyway, so lots of time to fit things in. Headed to Lake Pleasant after that for a week.

And yes, the Desert Botanical Garden is very different than the Tucson Desert Museum. I like both. I can tell you that the Desert Botanical Gardens is right in the middle of Phoenix but very easy to get to, easier I think than the Tucson museum. The website warns you to make reservations, but I had no problems at the last minute on Monday. It did not feel crowded at all once inside.

Also, they have a special RV/Bus parking area and I had the whole thing to myself!
