RV Purchase

Has anyone had any experience with purchasing motorhomes from RV Direct or Wholesale RV Direct? Their cost are much lower than the RV dealers in my area, I assume because you are cutting out the middle man. The only drawback is that I would have to go to Orlando, Fla to pick up the unit, which is about 7hrs from me. But if I could save $15,000 to $20,000, I would be willing to do that. The reviews on line are pretty positive except for some comments about having trouble getting warranty maintance done from local dealers.

Debra, I moved your post from the Show Off your Rigs, to the General so that more people might see it and respond. I haven't dealt with the Direct sales, but hopefully someone else has or knows more about them.

You might try asking this question over at RV.Net. There might be more that have purchased from them. If I could save that much money I wouldn't be too worried about warranty work. For that much money you could go to the factory.

I don't know anything about these companies, but you can almost always get warranty work done at the factory, depending on where your RV is manufactured. I drive past there once or twice a year on my way to see my younger son, so had them do most of my warranty work.

I have not used those two but we did use RV Wholesalers out of Lakeview OH. They a national network. We are pleased. Volume brings their prices down.

My only experiences are two bought from private parties. One good One bad. And the best experience was from Camping World in Greenville IN. The salesperson had been selling for 25+ years and believe it or not was honest. After the one bad experience I was glad to go to a dealer.
Sometimes saving money is good and that amount you are potentially saving would make me go that route.

I've heard more positive than negative about them but no personal experience. RV dealers can be insanely stupid about working on rigs, warranty or not.

PPL in Houston is well regarded. They are just a consignment place and offer no warranties and unless the owner lowers the price they don't dicker on price.. But I hired an independent inspector who came out and went over the motorhome. He told me the items that needed fixed. They do fix a few things there but I can't remember what now. I did buy that one, took it to the inspector and had the items fixed. He was slow, seems like all repair shops are but I never had any issues with his repairs.

The next one we bought from an independent party and my husband looked it over and we knew a lot was wrong, but got it anyway as its older and doesn't have all the sophisticated electronics and he can fix a lot if he ever gets time. Seems like I have to hire a lot done though as he isn't home much.

Not about purchasing but just saying I use Coach Net for my emergency service and so far have had good service from them. They sent a service person out one time to change tires, pretty quick. Another time had to have my batteries charged and then found my alternator was bad. The guy they sent was very capable and changed out my alternator on site and I was on the road again in just hours.. Some swear by Good Sams and other outfits but I like Coach Net. Nope I'm not employed by them or know no one that is.
