cold and tired

Omg I am in GA and it's like 12 degrees, same as back home, and I've been on the road for weeks to get to warmer weather. I am fortunate to have met a great maintenance guy, and also to have decided to ditch the Walmart thing and get into an rv park with internet and electric. I have water here, but it's frozen. I have one more day of propane and then...whew, I am tired of this surviving thing. Also I'm out of cell range so I can't call ahead for another campground on my way to FL. I can't leave here until I can disconnect from the water and I don't want to break things. Also I have to be sure that I can get into safe harbor around Macon, GA later today. I know I'm not alone in the distress, but it's been really hard for someone new to my rv and on the road only a few weeks. Well, I'll have stories to tell. And the pets are fine.

So sorry, you are cold and tired. In this weird and terrible weather we have had, you don't do WM much if at all. I think you have learned that, also I never hook water up on freezing nights, electric only . I always have half a tank or more in RV and just use from that. With heat on inside and cabinets opened so pipes stay relatively warmed up, it works for me. I do very little on freezing nights, level up, hopefully without much work and plug electric in, get in turn heater on, tv, and I'm set. Easy mornings too out in the cold. On really cold nights, just for overnight, I don't put slide out, or if so, just a little, less space to warm.

You are going to have to get down well into Florida this year to get warmed at all and right now that's not too warm. You will know more, after this trip and your travels from now on will be nice, not tiring and not so cold. Macon, tonight will be really cold, hope you don't have to stay there long. You shouldn't have much trouble getting into a CG up there without a reservation, not in this weather, not many will make many stops heading south.

You will always be learning more as you rv, and we always exchange what we have learned, because the more comfortable and happy we are the more we enjoy our RVing life and its a great way to go. I love it and so much of our country to see yet.

Hoping to meet you somewhere, one day, wishing you safe travels , hope you don't have to stay north to long,
CArol :)

Know what you mean and don't envy you fighting the cold so long. Surprised you hooked up to water as cold as it is. I did not do that as my lines are dry and decided to keep them that way until I'm sure out of hard freeze zone. That is beginning to look like it could be the first of next month tho there is a nice warm up forecast for this weekend.
I'm on my way to FL also. Hope to meet you somewhere along the way. Are you going to the gtg at Hillsborough River?

Some of the other ladies have posted they use a hair dryer to speed up the thawing out process. Hopefully, you managed to get on the road and it's getting warmer. We have had very cold weather in the Orlando area this month. Supposed to get warmer, then down to 30 next Tuesday night. That probably sounds like a heat wave compared to the temps you have been enduring. It gets really nice during the middle of the day!

Cricket - I just sent you a PM telling you where I've landed for couple of nights. If you made it to Macon tonight and are coming down I-75, this place is in your path (north FL near intersection of I-75 & I-10).

Well, survived another night. Frozen up again, but the campsites are the way to go in this weather. Almost to FL....

Hello Cricket.

So sorry that you have had such difficulties when just starting out on your RV life. I agree with you about WM - even though I don't have a MH (just a diy van conversion) - thus far in my travels, being able to hook up to electricity (for heat) has been a must.

May do WM later on in a pinch (have just joined Passport America) but I think (so far, anyway) I prefer to have hookups and RV neighbors in my travels.

When I hit the volcanoes, as I hope to do later this year, it will be boondock time - but at least it will be warm.

Ladies:

Come to California, where it never rains :( and is predicted to be 70 degrees today in the greater Sacramento area.

I highly suggest you not connect to water when it's going to freeze overnight - unless you are connected to sewer and feel comfortable leaving water running all night to keep the hose from freezing. Some parks require you to run heat tape or disconnect the hose. Just a suggestions :)

Hopefully you're in warm weather soon.

I left the coach winterized until I got almost out of Texas from Indiana and we had stuff that hubby missed when he did winterize. This is our first winter back in Indiana, been gone 30 years and I guess we forgot a lot. But they tell me this is the worst winter in 20 or 30 years, I hope so.

I was going to head for Florida but sounds like I would have had to go deep down to miss this. It's cold at night here in Quartzsite but nice during the day. Need to check out Vegas before we go to see how cold it is there, gets mighty cold there too at times.

I am fortunant to have heated bays but I still have to be vigilant and not hook up water at night, cause it won't keep anything outside warm. Also I either need electric or have to keep the generator running and it takes 1/2 gallon of diesel an hour. It will turn off automatically if I get below 1/3 of a tank I think it is.

I'm still here, we are in Shady Lane RV park right on central blvd I think its called. My old Eagle is parked right by the laundromat and a Saturn Vue is beside it. It's gray and blue with creme.
I have to see the rv guy again some of his fixes didn't take or there is more wrong. At least the new very very expensive fridge is working and the strap reattachment of the microwave/convection oven is good. So something good got done.
