More cold!!!!!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

More cold!!!!!

Postby bluepinecones » Thu Jan 23, 2014 9:10 am

Incredibly cold morning but will be even worse here tomorrow; I hope to be starting southward in about an hour or so.
With wind chill near zero for most of today, walking Nicky is more than I can handle to get passed the nearest tree. Our average temps this time of year 30s - 50s, not 0 - 20s. Don't know how you ladies living where it is even worse make it. You have my admiration.
Spent night in Magic but not much sleep - in addition to being too cold, shoulder hurting enough to keep me awake. Did manage to nap a bit and better prepared for cold than I've been previously, tho still not good enough. Learning the hard way.
Just praying Magic performs well after being idle for 4 months and that the GPS cooperates today..
Not that it will help with temps but light does wonders for my moral, the sun has popped over the hills now so need to feed Nicky and put last minute things away so we can get on the road.
Just heard on news there is a propane shortage. Need to quit watching news; mostly bad lately.
My day has promise since I'm escaping for a while.
Have a good one, everybody.

Good morning Sarah & Donna - you ladies be safe on your travels, and (bummer) bring warm clothes. The propane shortage has been mentioned here in Illinois also. No clue why, I doubt there are many campers around with real temp expected today at -27 (yes negative). Maybe all the propane has been shipped south for traveling folks.

Anyway - have a good day everyone.

Good Morning Sarah! I hope you ran the furnace in Magic... I use my little electric fire place all of the time... I do turn it down at night... I simply do not like to stow everything and go get propane so use it sparingly... they tried to put an extended stay on for me a few years back but could not get it in the box... maybe I need to see if another place has smaller things... that would sure help!
So glad you are getting away for a break Sarah... you may not want to go home!!
Finally Molly and I went to the store yesterday... I had to get Shadow a new lead as his frayed and I was having a hard time retracting it... he pulls so hard sometimes... this one has a larger place for my hand so maybe I can get a better grip...
Looking for a check that should have been here a week ago... they say any day now... then I will not be so stressed!!
It got down to 31 last night but is climbing now it is 41! wow regular heat wave...
Have a safe trip all that are on the road and everyone stay warm!
Kathleen

Well good morning Donna and Cheryl I was so slow writing that you both posted while I was writing!!

Good Morning Sarah and Everyone !! I was happy to see you are forging along, in spite of the cold, Sarah. I know it was very cold for you, staying in Magic last night. Its cold down here this morning also, but I think you might think its a heat wave. Safe travels today, it pays not to rely totally on the GPS,( it might be cold too :o ), a look at the map always is in order.

Thinking of Barbie, trying to fly out this afternoon, sure hope you are able to get out of there Barbie. Your weather looks TERRIBLE !!! I'm so thankful I am not in North Carolina, and your home Barbie, forget it, you couldn't pay me right now to venture up there.

Not much news here, cold, tummy ache this morning, hoping it eases up as have some chores I need to do.

Hope you all have a Safe day, and that you're able to stay warm and enjoy your day,

CArol :)

As I'm writing my few lines, several posted in before me, good morning ladies, will now read what your morning is like.

Am getting last minute things done here before leaving for the airport. It is -20 with a -40 windchill. At least the sun is out and the wind has died down some. Tomorrow is supposed to get to 32 above with snow. Strange winter! Such a rollercoaster ride with the temps!

Sarah, I am so happy you are getting away and coming down to Florida for the GTG! Can't wait to meet you! Drive safe!

Have a good day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

It's chilly (low 30s) in Arizona this morning as well, but temp will get up to 70.

Sarah, so glad you are on your way to Florida. Barbie, hope your trip is smooth.

We took our RZR ride yesterday to a mine I had not been to before. 2 ring tailed cats had been seen in the mine. I have lost my taste for going in the mines, but I was hoping to see the cats. I finally stopped after we got a ways in and L went on ahead. I looked behind me and there was a bat flying between me and the exit - not the first time that has happened. L got further in and encountered more bats so he turned around to come back. We ducked into a little alcove and the bat flew by us. The highlight of the ride was spotting 7 bighorn sheep! Some years we search and don't see any.

Everyone stay warm and safe!

Wow it sounds like it's cold pretty much everywhere today. My 3 dogs are inside with me but the youngest wants to go out and play, he's bored! Debated whether or not to turn out the horses, decided to do it. They have blankets on and plenty of hay to eat (which keeps them warm!) and fresh heated water. It's really better for them than standing still inside their stalls. And easier on my stalls! I have a couple of things to do today that require being outside for short periods of time, I'm going to get them done and then just veg with the dogs. I have to inclination to do anything today!
Any day spent in the company of my animals is a good day.

Hate to say how nice it is here in southern Nevada, very windy overnight, however, so lots of rocking. I am heading to Lake Havasu today, so looking forward to that. Very short drive, thankfully.

I got a couple of confirmations of people joining me for a GTG lunch on Sunday, February 9 at Usery Mountain State park just east of Phoenix. If there are any more of you out there who want to join us, check the GTG posting and let us know. It will just be a one-day thing except for one other person who has a reservation for several days.

Good travels to Sarah and others. One good thing about Minnesota, by the way, if that they are experts at cold and clearing snow. I hate to leave this very nice campground with the biggest spots I have ever seen, but there are always interesting things to be seen!

Sunny, dry morning in northern Ca, temperature in 40's heading to nearly 70 and we so badly need rain. Our Sierras are in red flag warning with high fire danger, very unusual for this time of year.
I was curious about the comment on it possibly being too cold for GPS. So, I asked hubby, a retired Navy communications man. He said GPs are used in the north and south pole so barring satellite interference from something, they should operate as normal. That said we always carry paper maps too.Everyone stay warm and dry and travel safe. I wish I could join you on the road.

I know it's evening already but just wanted to add my good wishes for Sarah & Barbie.
Safe travels to everyone traveling down to FL.
Can't wait to see pics from the GTG. :D

This winter sure is a roller coaster, but I'll take that any day over staying down in the deep freeze for long periods of time. I can deal with most anything for a day or two. Supposed to be back up to the 40s-50s this weekend. Today the high was 17

DD in SanDiego keeps telling me how nice it is out there. hmmmmm..... :?

Still praying for rain in CA. My DS said the smoke from the fire near LA drifted all the way to the coast. He had ash on his car some mornings.

hope everyone stays safe & warm.

Turn that heat on at the dash, get warm and keep moving south. We do have much warmer days, so keep heading south, think it was about 65 here today, nice warm sunshine. Look forward to seeing you.

Thanks for all the encouragement, ladies. This is my first long solo trip, surprised I'm not more nervous about it.

I was uncomfortably cold in the RV at Ditto in Huntsville last night and tonight does not look much better. Will add another layer to my sleeping attire tonight; maybe that will help - long johns, sweat suit, and fleece PJs over them plus a hat.

Nicky and I did make it as far as Ozark, AL (about 70 miles south of Montgomery) and pulled into campground right before dark. Low here tonight will be 20 with single digit wind chill thru 11:00 AM Friday. Not going to be fun walking Nicky or unhooking in the morning.

Turned out not to be a bad day for drive other than a strong wind tho it was a longer days drive than I like in the RV. Roads dry, light traffic, Magic did her thing just like a champ and after about an hour of "recalculate" even the GPS did help me get not lost this time (she is really good at that trick when she is in the mood).

Nice little park here if it were warmer but a bit on the pricey side. At least the site is paved and level plus WiFi and cable are included. However, I will try to go to bed early (not anything I really like on Thurs TV anyway) as did not sleep well last night.

With the forecast here, still cannot hook up to water. So no water in lines/tanks but I brought some bottled water for me and Nicky to drink and to make coffee. Have used a little of it to flush toilet but mostly using RV/Marine antifreeze so the waste holding tank will not freeze. I did walk over to bath house and fill couple little water bottles for flushing. BTW: The bath house is one of the best I've encountered.

Hoping for warmer weather soon but other than Sunday the remainder of Jan. does not look that good even in FL.

Not morning by a long shot, in fact almost time for bed :D But so happy to see your day was a decent traveling day, Sarah, had to say something. I have thought of you all day and did realize this was your first solo trip, at least leaving from home as you did. You soloed in MI, traveling home, and had a great time visiting all the way.

Velda, I was joking about GPS, being cold, its just so darn cold everywhere , just added humor, I knew Sarah was going to have a really cold night, tried to lighten the mood .  They do act up somewhat but I love having mine, traveling alone with no navigator, love knowing I need to be on inside lane for turns etc. Its great. But I have also learned that having a general idea of where you're going by checking a map can save wrong turns at times. Of course, if you miss a turn, you go down turn around and catch the missed turn, no biggy :D ;) My husband and I, found out a long time ago, that missed turns or wrong roads may hold a great adventure. I have enjoyed some of those adventures since he has been gone too, the GPS does keep me from having so many now though. ;)

Time to head to bed, hope Barbies trip went as planned and that she is safely at her friends down here.
Keep us posted , Sarah, safe travels,

Night all,
CArol :)

Yaaay Sarah . . . glad to hear you are clipping along. Hope all went well for you, Donna, picking up your sister. We are getting closer and closer to the GTG. I'm stopping at Costco on the way home tomorrow to pick up some chicken soup. Will stock the refrigerator and pack up on Saturday.
