Freezing Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Freezing Tuesday

Postby Colliemom » Tue Jan 21, 2014 7:51 am

Good Morning all,

Time to check in. Been absent on here for awhile. Just skimming posts this morning, need to do some serious reading. Cold here this morning -15. This is area has already seen over 115 inches of snow this winter so far. But it's a normal winter for the first time in many years. Reminds of those in the 70;s. Have to admit it hasn't bothered me. Been keeping busy in house, right now getting ready to paint some wainscot I installed in one area of kitchen/dining room last week.

Sarah, glad you niece is improving and by all means yes, take that trip to FL, you need it. Barbie, I know you hate winters up there, maybe you need a winter hobby, like going out with your new camera and doing some winter photography perhaps. Buy some snowmobile pants and stuff and go for a walk. It's been a cold winter for many of you who are not used to it and January does seem longer this year, but the shortest month of year will be here in another week and then the slow March to spring begins. This is a good time to start planning those summer trips.

Judy, thanks for the heads up on the Colorado park you are at. Will have to put that on my list for when I head out that way. I hope you will be coming to MI again this spring and heading north here for a few days. Lady who mixed my paint yesterday is heading out to CO today to visit with family for about 10 days. She's so excited.

Okay, time to get to work around here. Wood filler to put in nail holes, wood to stain and paint etc. Have a wonderful day all.

Good Morning

More progress with younger niece; staff got her out of bed a couple of times yesterday to sit in chair for half hour each time. She has to be able to sit up for an hour at a time at least twice a day before rehab place can accept her so this is a start at achieving that goal.

Yesterday was a very inopportune time for holiday in terms of what I need to get accomplished before I can get out of town. Need to get medical directive and power of attorney set up so older niece can do whatever necessary for her sister while I'm gone. Lawyer office was closed. Missing 2 important pieces of mail and no delivery yesterday and of course banks closed also.

With all the chaos of past few weeks, I forgot it was time for Nicky's annual check up and shots. At least I was able to get that taken care of yesterday plus he got a bath.

Weather will be major enemy all week - bitter cold with high winds. With a low of 6 forecast for Thursday I'm going to have to leave faucets dripping and heat higher than I usually need to do. Not going to get above freezing again until Saturday afternoon. Will have to count on older niece getting over here Sunday to turn water off and lower heat. It will be a real test for me to get van loaded, then everything transferred to RV. Then back home to leave van and get ride for me and Nicky back to campground Wed. night. Not looking forward to any of that or having to walk Nicky in such cold - my old bones just don't don't do cold well these days and I find it difficult to breath with air that cold. Trying not to think about it and just concentrate on being to get of the freeze line by Saturday.

Wishing all a good warm day

Good Morning everyone... glad to see you Sue... Sarah things seem to be looking up... hurry and get out of Dodge before things change!
I had a bad day yesterday... laid around all day... very upset stomach... so with all of that rest I was up at 4am got a lot of busy work done... lists of things I must do and did many of them... I changed insurance this year and there are two meds I will not be taking because of the cost. One was $96 another $18 for 3 months supply... does not fit my finances... so will see if there is another 'drug' to take their place...
I will take a rest after I get Shadow out then later this afternoon Molly and I are going to do some errands... will be good to be out a while...
BJ that is strange that the doctor did not know what surgery to do... and I bet they will get charged double... also no clean gowns and food was bad... I say some letters need to be written... phone calls do not have the same effect as a written letter does...
I trust everyone is doing ok in the cold... stay warm

Good morning all. This is my first post in the morning coffee. I've been reading posts but just haven't posted other than in the introduction. Some of you might know that I bought a new RV in Nov/Dec with the intent of part-timing. I have a new house which backs to a river, so I'm keeping that! But I still have wanderlust. Surprised me. I always thought if I found "paradise," I'd stay put. Not so... Hence the RV. I have full-timed before with my significant other for two years 2007-2009, returned to work to get monies so I could travel to see my grandchildren more often. I'm retired now, and my S/O still works, so I'm off. I arrived at Ft Huachuca FAMCAMP (family campground) after a tiring journey from south of Seattle on 7 January and have settled in. I'll be here until approximately 20 Feb when I head off to Gulf Shores, Alabama (my former full-time wintering grounds) to meet my family (who will fly in from Washington State) for Mardi Gras. Another 1600'ish mile trip. :-)

Meanwhile, I've been driving around, visiting towns I never knew existed here in southeastern Arizona. I went to high school in Phoenix, was stationed in Tucson, but only ever visited Sierra Vista once. It's beautiful down here. The base is nestled up against the Huachuca Mountains. It feels very historical...with mining history, the battles between the military and the Apaches and the old ghost towns. I say thank goodness for my little Sonic Chevy toad, but then again perhaps a standard Jeep would have been better to get off road. There was one site of Native American petroglyphs I couldn't get to yesterday because my car bottoms out on a speed bump, and the road to this site (on base) recommended no low clearance vehicles. Sigh.

That's it for me! The wind is blowing slightly today, reminding me of the trip here through Arizona and on I-10. I love the wind, but not when I'm driving the RV. I think it's supposed to get to 69 today. :-)

Hate to mention it for those of you in freezing weather, but it is sunny and warm here. Heading out in a few minutes to see Davis Dam and also getting some laundry done. Need a couple of items from the store also, but got to be careful not to overbuy. I need to eat some stuff first!

I posted about this campground with the huge sites on the campground review page. It is not everyone's perfect park, but I like it because of the spacing between sites and quietness.

And, Sue, I will be coming to Michigan, but it will be a quick trip so I will just be there briefly for doctor appointments and to visit some friends. Not going Up North.

Hope all have a good, and warm, day.

My sister came on Sunday to go to a doctor's appointment in Lafayette today. Yesterday we went shopping. Finished my Christmas shopping for her sons and granddaughters. Glad I'm finished with that for another year. The traffic was terrible. I forgot that it was a holiday and everyone was out. Went to Lafayette with her today and then messed around for a while. It was 60 and sunny but suppose to be 24 tonight. Surely it's not going to get that cold.

Two of my goofy cats are still looking for my sister. They are freaked out by strangers. I should have stopped at the vet to find out who's turn it is to go. Their notification system is messed up and I keep getting a notice for Stinky and I know she just went not long ago. I try to space them out so the bill isn't all at the same time.

Sarah, hope you get to go to Florida. It's a pain to get ready for a trip but so nice to hit the road.
