Juncalito - 1 and Edited to add Juncalito 2

Postby Bethers » Sat Jan 18, 2014 8:01 pm

I'm splitting my blog posts about Juncalito into two (too many pictures) ... just finished the first. And a big, big thank you to Liz who decided with me to give the couple spots in the road from hell a chance - who knows we might have stayed longer, bit it was always in our minds we had to go over that one bad spot again.

That was a beautiful area. Did the wind calm down while y'all were there? I was hoping to see the bad part of the road that made y'all hesitate.

I think Liz took pictures of it - I didn't. I should have taken pics of her driving over it. Sometimes my brain just doesn't work!

It was tougher for me going over it leaving than coming - only because my steps (which aren't usable anymore anyway) are way too low and hit many curbs, hit a few times. But they didn't hit as hard there as they did going from the road with the curb to the main road. They also hit when I left the lp place - Mitch was watching that. I should be used to it, but cringe every time I hear them do it.

Vickie only the first day was the wind really strong. It came up the next few, but not nearly what we had that first day. But the combination of it and the full-moon and tide tables for those few days, simply didn't work for kayaking there. No problem - was so much to do and hike - and places we could have hiked we didn't get to!

Great photos! I received a Halloween arrangement one time that had some of those orange 'flowers' in it. I saved them as they were dried and they lasted a couple of years before the color started to fade.

I'd have enjoyed that, too - but the first was quite a ways up - I'm not agile like when younger and the second would have required some heavy duty weed whacking to get to. Maybe next time :)

Great scenery & bird pics on both threads Beth. Great weather (except for the wind maybe). Thanks for taking us along.

Spectacular photos.
I was surprised to see the Chinese lantern blooms (labeled blooming bush, I think). Love those especially in winter arrangements.

Me too! I just know I liked them. Kind of like how I am with birds. Liz says she's a casual birder (and she is) but I'm much more casual lol. But I do admit there are some that I have to figure out - like when I first saw a P bird. Had to know. I remember I was with Sharon and others at Organ Pipe Cactus Monument and went in the visitor center and had to show the picture on the camera to a volunteer there who knew right away what it was.
