I left Salem the week after several snow storms and a 4' drift in back of the rv. But I got out and going - right into the polar vortex. I was brand new to the rig (other than parking in a friend's yard, with hookup), and I don't know how I didn't freeze. Bless my diesel engine for starting when everything else was a problem. The first week was an absolute trial, but I did survive, the animals are fine, and my water didn't freeze. I am soooo tired of topping off my propane every day, but it was necessary at -15!!
I drive slowly and will arrive in Burlington, NC today. omg it's supposed to be 50! I've been totally boondocking, and sometimes staying with family in their driveway. Loved those breaks. Otherwise it's been super Walmarts or one night a Camping World to fix wiring. Tonight I'll be at a Cracker Barrel that allows rv parking if you call ahead (I did). I will be looking for low cost places with hook up and water on my way through SC and Georgia. I'm less interested in a lot of amenities, more in just a nice place with walking trails for my dogs. The more exclusive places, so I see, are pretty strict with the rules and not as dog friendly about it. My dogs are well behaved and a lot of my trip is about being able to get out and around with them.
Whew. Can't wait for south and warmer weather.

The state parks in SC and GA should all be open, and a quick googling should show you maps of their locations. Some even have dog parks. You shall be rewarded with warmer weather soon, and with electric at sites, you could use a little electric heater instead of your LP gas furnace.

Glad you made it out and did not freeze in the horrid weather. Your rig must be well insulated; mine would not keep me warm in those temps.

Many places have leash requirements but I've seen many campgrounds with dog parks. Good Sam website has a campground search feature that allows you to filter for pet friendly.

Bless my rig for not freezing up at minus 15! And bless my diesel engine! We are making it to warmer weather and better days. BTW, thanks for the comments about the dog friendly campsites. I'll be less concerned about basic survival so will look for those campgrounds suggested in SC and GA.
