Weds. Morning, still chilly, but warm-up coming...

Postby rvgrammy1953 » Wed Jan 08, 2014 6:56 am

Good morning everyone...been up since 4:40am, got a good sleep as I hit the hay about 9pm last night...It was 28F at wake-up, but the forecast is stating a slight warm up today into the mid 50s....the weekend is looking great with sunshine and temps. in the 70s'....I figure I can hang up the "cotton candy pink" robe tomorrow or Friday.... :o ;)

We're off to Ft. Stewart today for a grocery run at the commissary....got to do the stock up for the month....then when we get back, pay some of my med. bills...be glad when I'm done with "the coupon of the month" club....our retirement health insurance paid the bulk of them, but there's always the "deductible" to pay...my share....
Oh, well, such is life....

Glad to see all the "Baja Babes" have checked in...looks like they are enjoying their trip...I'm enjoying the different takes on what they do and see...Mitch is still looking for Pedro, they are enjoying some great fresh foods, the tours, relaxing time on the beach and kayaking.... ;)

Okay, better get out of here and finish that shopping list....coffee is ready, with English muffins on the counter for ya'...

Have a great day, all..

Good Morning Lori and all who follow,

Things are going to be warming up here too, gradually. In the mid to upper 30's by end of week. Now I know that doesn't sound warm to those of you in the south, but it's a "heat wave" for us here in the north.

Yes, I am back home now. Came back down from the U.P. on Sunday. Wanted to get ahead of the cold air and also the storm heading up from the south, which didn't affect us much here, but when the cold front finally pushed through, the lake effect snow machine turned on and between the wind and blowing snow, it has been a bit rough out there. White out conditions were not uncommon. But ti's over now, so back to normal winter. Hope those of you still in the cold air down south are hanging in there. One suggestion I might make to you Sarah, is if you are suffering from cold feet in this cold, go online and buy some "Smartwool" socks. They will keep your feet nice and warm. Even if you only need them once in a blue moon, they will be there when you need them.

Won't be long and the Hillborough GTG will be happening. Time is flying. Then we will all start dreaming of summer and travels and what not. My TT is beginning to resemble an igloo with the snow on top and piling up along the sides.

Time to be off here. Chores to do this morning in town. Like Lori and Ernie, need to head to store and then bank as well. Getting caught up here slow but sure. Have a great day all.

Good Morning... yes the cold is broken today will be 60... there is something about the cold down here that is worse than the north... even when we lived in Fl for 8 1/2 years the cold was different... at 50 it is like 30 in the north...
Wishing for an early spring but guess we will take what we get...
My body is sure feeling the cold here and is aching very badly... I will hook up the water later and take a nice warm shower maybe that will help...
Sue I am going to look for those socks... happy grocery shopping to you and Lori...
May your feet take you to happy places today...

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

Molly (who has been sick and unable to keep anything down for two days) has eaten three dinners now, rice, cube steak cut up in it, and a bit of her own salmon-based dog food this morning. She is keeping everything down now, including some water, is peeing fine, and now I'm waiting for a poop to make sure all is well in there. I feel very much better today, and so does she! The stress of sick puppies is exhausting on top of having a cold myself.

It's much warmer outside today, and the furnace is coming on less and less. Soon I will shut it down. I am so glad it worked for the past two days as we would have been very cold without it. Today I will do up some laundry, pack my stuff for the camping trip this weekend with the kids to celebrate Goog's and my birthday. I doubt very much that I will be able to pack my canoe in this new short-bed truck, but I will make the attempt.....perhaps lean it up over the cab and strap it down somehow. Maybe I can find a roof-top rack for it somewhere today. It's up to 46 degrees now, and is feeling rather balmy after the past two days! Forecast is for temperatures back in the 80s by Saturday and Sunday! YIPPEE! Hope people further north and way up east are faring better today as well. I see it's only 2 above zero back at my northern home. Mandy says more firewood is to be delivered there soon. Glad to know Sue made it home safely from the 'farther north' ...maybe I'll talk to you tonight in the chat room on Facebook.

Have a fun Wednesday y'all!

Happy travels!

I don't think it got as cold as they said it was going to be last night. The warm air started coming in from the West during the night and the temperatures started going up. Yea! I think we will have at least a week of warmer weather.

I am waiting around on Directv this morning. I got 2 recorded calls at 7:30 reminding me that they were coming. If someone had called me and ask the problem they could have brought what they need. Two Einsteins showed up a little while ago without the 2 receivers we need. One of the receivers went out yesterday and when I said something to DH he told me one in the bedroom had been out. The only place I hate to call more than Direct is the phone company. We have had Directv for over 15 years and I think I know when a receiver isn't working but they want you to go through all their hoops when you call. I called over a year ago because the receiver in the bedroom wouldn't get the local channels. After an hour on the phone the woman told me I needed to update my TV. After I got off the phone I tried moving TV's and receivers around and it wasn't the TV or the receivers. I never did call them back. We'll see if these 2 can fix that problem. I use to have a lot of patience but it doesn't take much for these people to set me off.

Same here! (It is -13* right now  )

And Kathleen, I do know what you mean by feeling colder in Florida. It is more humid down there and that is what makes it feel colder. The kind that goes right thru to the bones.

Speaking of Florida...only 2 more weeks! Yay! Can't wait! :D

I am having car problems so I need to get it in to my mechanic in the next day or two and see what is going on with it. Running really rough. :(

Also, I have a sick ferret. Coco, my foster boy (now mine), has been having coughing fits lately and is not very active. I have been doing some research and I think he has cardiomyopathy (congestive heart failure). I need to get him in for chest x-rays to be sure. Not much that can be done for that other than meds to make him more comfortable. My first ferret had that and it isn't a good thing, but what disease is? I will keep him comfortable and happy until his quality of life is no longer good. I have been in contact with his previous owner (who will be pet sitting for me while I am in Florida) and he will help with vet bills.

My air bed sprung a leak yesterday so I slept on the futon last night. Now I have a backache! :( I have another air bed I can use for now so will set that up tonight.

I am on call for work this morning but it has been slow so who knows... just get some phone calls and bills taken care of while I wait.

Have a good day and keep those tootsies warm! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I think it is miserable here too but yesterday my friends who live on Achill in Ireland posted pictures of the sea taking over his sisters house. The force of the waves and the storm is just unimaginable even when you see it on film. The water came over the sea wall that is around her garden and into her house a little on Friday. Many people in their village helped her clean it up but Sunday the waves were even higher and filled the bottom floor of her home with water, huge rocks and debris to a level of about 4 feet. I'm not sure how old the house is but it looks similar to my friends and their home right across the street is a place where several weavers worked over 100 years ago. My friends wife and another woman who lives there were on the radio yesterday afternoon (we were able to hear it online) telling how badly they need help on the island. The two roads into the only place that delivers heating oil and the place where the trucks who pick up garbage are underwater! The radio show was to try and get help for road repairs or to get heating oil delivered. I think the road onto the island has also been impassable.
It has warmed up a bit here, still in the twenties but much better than daytime highs of zero!! The forecast looks good after tomorrow.
Stay warm, I'm sure those of you in the south feel just as cold as we do, like someone said, the humidity makes it feel worse.

Gee, how many places can Mr Murphy be at once? Hit here with vengeance again. Older niece has pneumonia, younger one refusing to eat (Chemo side effects) and 2 houses with busted water pipes with 2 to 3 day wait for plumber due to busted pipes all over town. Somebody please call Mr Murphy back home!
We did get above freezing for couple of hours today and weather to be a bit better tomorrow. Hope to get enough of a break to go check on RV tomorrow; keep finger crossed that she is okay.
BJ- Check out these awesome photos of waves hitting parts of Europe yesterday

Sarah those pictures were amazing. I heard on the news that someone was actually surfing on one of the waves that was 60' high. I looked at all of the pictures and the ones from 2013!! Great photography.
There is NO way I would have been standing out watching the waves like some of the people, they looked way too close. When I was in San Diego there was a time when the waves were unusually high, I went to see them but found I had to park a block away and look it was just too overwhelming for me to get closer. I hope 2014 gets better for you, it's time you had a break. Hope you can get on the road soon.
