With some people the minute they unhook, out comes the awning. We are not that way. We have a power awning so a simple push of a button deploys it. If we need the shade or protection from a light ran out it comes. I like to sit and watch the rain. We put it away if before we leave or before we go to bed. I normally pull the picnic table up near the camper so the awning will cover it. I would find it more useful if it stuck out further from the camper but that is probably not practical.

Some of the manual awnings seem to have tie downs or people have added tie downs that make them more wind resistant.

I have my awning out all summer when I am working. It is a windy area but I have it tied down with 2 ft spikes. This last summer we were hit with a heavy hail storm, so now my awning does not keep the rain off but it is good for shade.
