I think it was a bit warmer last night, but very hard to tell temperature here because there is no real weather station at Furnace Creek. My little outdoor thermometer that gives highest and lowest temp within a 24 hour period said it was only 39 last night. A problem was the strong wind. I learned I have air leaks under and around both slides, between the window pieces, around the vents, and even through the side door latches!! Supposed to warm up with highs in upper 50s by tomorrow.

Got a little work to do this morning and then going to drive to Bad Waters near here to walk and take photos, although if it does not warm up, may wait until tomorrow. It is not fun walking in the wind and cold!! Being able to take your time doing things is one big advantage to being full time!!! :)

I found a new full hookup campground along the river below Hoover Dam that I want to try out. Only $17.50 for seniors and includes WiFi. Sounds like a good deal. I need to spend a couple of days near civilization and Camping World to get my water pump looked at and my sink leak fixed. I also need to go to Lowes to replace my poor old electric heater because the motor is making funny noises. Got to get a few groceries also before I head for Valley of Fire.

Where is that cg, Judy? There used to be one below the dam but it got washed away in a flood along with several campers. They didn't let anyone stay there overnight for years unless you were out in a boat. Hope it's not in the same place or if it is it's been fixed so you don't get washed down into the river!

Took my dad to his doctor appointment this morning. I guess the doctor thinks he no longer needs the stomach feeding tube. He will be seeing a specialist about it first. Hopefully that will go well. The advantage to getting the tube out, is that if/when he needs to leave his house for good, he will have the option of going into assisted living rather than straight to a nursing home. Assisted living places won't accept someone with a feeding tube, even if they are able to feed themselves with it. So, we'll see what happens...

Cold and windy today @ zero for a high and -20 windchill. Two more days of this and then will start to warm up into the teens! Already wanting to start packing for Florida! 6 more weeks to wait...

So Sharon, where did you meet this frog?
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I've not been up 3 hours yet - so still pretty much morning for me. Woke up with my throat killing me during the night ... had eaten popcorn and it sometimes does that, so hopefully that's the reason. I can't drink tea so have made myself my own version (squeeze 1/2 a lemon into water, heat it, then add cinnamon and honey) and it seems to be doing the trick. I'm finally swallowing without as much pain. I'm so glad I still had a couple lemons in the fridge!

I was taken to dinner last night by the manager of the department I'm working in and his wife. We had a good time talking and laughing - good to meet his wife. They are still new to this area and haven't had much time to meet many people yet to socialize with, so I think they enjoyed getting out - even with an "old lady" lol. When this season is over they'll have more time to find friends in the area.

As to the cold - I think we're at the warmest time of day now and it's only 46. Brrrrr but Peaches loves it - traitor! I think after tonight I won't have to turn the water off for a couple nights, but probably will when I leave for work anyway - just to be safe.

So many things I thought I'd do today - but have no desire to go out and do them - so staying in and warm - other than when Peaches really convinces me it's time for a walk!

When I don't have electric (and even sometimes when I do) and the temps are really low, I don't open my slide - amazing how much less heating I have to do. I also have two pillows I put at my steps (entranceway) to keep that cold from coming in. Now, if only the quilted window covers I had made had actually still had quilting in them - I would have put them up lol They would have made a world of difference.

I'm sure there are a lot of areas where the cold air can come in but I have felt pretty warm and comfortable through my first experience in this very cold weather. It has been in the teens the past few nights and other than having my water hose freeze on me twice, I haven't found the cold to be an horrible inconvenience to full timing.

I finally learned if you keep your inside faucets dripping, your hose will not freeze up, that is if you have the sponge type insulation around it. I have only turned my furnaces on to take the chill off and maybe run them 3 times a day for about 10 minutes each time. I rely the rest of the time on two electric heaters which seem to warm my rig quite well. They are portable so I can carry them with me to whichever part of the rig I am in. I also put curtains from floor to ceiling to close off the cab and have insulated covering over the window of the cab. The best thing I invested in to get through this freeze was an extra large heating pad (Walgreen's $20.00) which I sit on. It really gets quite toasty. With the help of my fleece robe at night and a very warm but lightweight comforter on my bed, it could be 10 degrees or 70 and it's all the same to me. Also, the shades on the windows seem to keep the drafts out. I have kept both my slides out the entire time through this cold or else I would get claustrophobia.

My daughter has insisted I come stay with them through this cold weather. She thinks I am being hardheaded for staying in my rig but this is my home now and I have to keep convincing her and her husband that I am where I want to be, doing what I want to do, 16 degree weather or not. Some people simply cannot understand that. RVing full time or even part time, I'm realizing is NOT for the faint of heart for sure. I rather see it, however, as somewhat of a challenge. I commited to 3 years of doing this. I will have had my rig one year next month and so far so good. I don't forsee wanting to discontinue this lifestyle but who knows....maybe in another 2 years I will change my mind.

Having said all this, I will welcome the warmer temperatures predicted to be in the 30s and 40s next week!
