Just wondered if anyone has the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9.... Need to decide if that is a good one as I'm not familiar with tablets.... I have my IPad that I bought last year & it's fine for me. But son's SO wants to get him a tablet for Christmas & asked if I'd do some online checking... I did & this one came out pretty darn good... but expensive... :( So I thought I'd ask here if someone has a comment.... appreciate any posts.
Thank you in advance..............

I have the first Kindle Fire and love it. I've been reading about the new one, but I don't like the price. Looks really nice tho. Best thing is to go on Amazon and start reading the reviews and see what everyone on there says about it.

We had one. It would not run "Adobe flash" they have their own version and we had problems with some websites. The original Fire would run Adobe flash and we liked it. The new Fire we sent back and bought a laptop and a Kindle Paper White to read on.

I have the Kindle Fire also and really love it, but I only use it to read books. I don't try to download movies or use it as a computer or play games. I think those are more easily done on a real computer. I looked online and can see that the 8.9 is a lot bigger. Not sure I would like that. I use mine in bed almost entirely and the size is about right for having something to read while you are lying down. (You freeze the screen by the way, so it does not tilt on you.)

Not sure I would like the ads that appear on the cheaper model. I will say I had a black and white kindle and do like the Fire because it is in color. More online books are coming with diagrams and photos.

I use my kindle to read an hour or so in bed every night, and those nights when I wake up at 3:00 am and can't sleep. My kids bought me my first one, and I would not live without one know because you can load so many books into a small space.

Just thinking. Maybe your choice is between a Kindle and a new tablet like an IPad. I don't have an iPad so I can't compare.

I would think it would depend on what he wants to do with a tablet. If he is really hooked into Amazon and downloads movies, videos, books, etc. from them then a Fire would likely be a good choice. Fire tablets use Android apps so if he has a smart phone that uses the Android operating system then I don't think he would have to buy them all again....not really sure about that. If he has an iPhone he would likely prefer the Apple operating system. Again back to what he wants to do with the tablet. I've had several iPads and don't think I would be happy with anything else. The new iPad Air is amazing. I have a first generation Kindle Fire and used it mainly for reading. It made my eyes tired though after just a short time. I got a Kindle Paperwhite for reading and can now read for hours without eye strain. I do miss the color.

Totally depends on what he wants to do. Just had a friend research them and she purchased a tablet from Lenovo - less price, more features.
