Welcome, Susan! It's nice to have you with us on OUR forum ... it's yours now, also.

I love your intro and your dreams - and they are certainly doable. Hope we get to help you find the right rig for you and see you get started ... oh, and watch where you are for any gtg's. Lots of ladies have been to gtg's before getting rigs.

I'm an RV dreamer still -- nothing to show for myself but my "bookmarked" Rvs, campgrounds, and cool modifications.

I plan to retire in another 2-3 years (it's a moving target) and sell the house and most everything in it.

Hi Susan - seems like you and I are on the same path with the same timeline (hopefully). Too bad we're not closer - we could be hunting for our dream rolling home together! :D Welcome to the forum.

Welcome Susan,

Follow Beth's suggestion and try to attend as many GTG's as you can. Many campgrounds have rental units or cabins. Some of the mini GTGs are at a restaurant.

Attending RV shows are fun way to shop for your RV. It gives you a chance to walk through lots of RVs and see what's new. Who knows, you may want to purchase one of these models as a used resale in a few years.

Hoosier Welcome :D

Picking the right rig for you is a very personal choice. All kinds of things go into that selection. Example: if you tend to stay put, you might find a trailer more to your liking. If you tend to move often a Class C might be a better choice. The point is, you need to look at your plans and how you will use it to determine the right rig for you. If you tend to use state and federal parks there are size restrictions you'll have to take into account. If you won't have hookups everyday (boondocking) you need to look at tank sizes and power usage, possibly adding solar or a generator. Pay attention to how you live and find a floor plan to support that. There is a joke that some peoples RV's are nicer than their sticks and bricks. Remember you have to live in it. Make sure it's you and just not glitz. There are many options that may or may not make your life easier. Recently we had a talk about things we liked and did not like in our RV's you might find helpful.

Getting together with others and seeing how they address issues can greatly accelerate your learning curve. You might ever see a solution to issue you are not even aware of.

Once again welcome.

Welcome, Susan. I'm new here to the forum like you, so I'll "listen" to the other responses you get regarding your questions. I know many women do prefer a class C over an A or a fifth wheel, but it's all about individual preference. I do recommend you drive each one and see what you think. Make the sales people take you out in a fifth wheel with one of their trucks. If they want to sell it to you, they will.

I do know that the campgrounds I have stayed in for extended periods (always cheaper that way) may have lots of activities, but they don't require me to join them. It's there if you want it, and not if you don't. Read reviews of them, especially those that offer monthly rates if you're planning on snow birding. I've been fortunate in my selections and use Good Sam, Woodalls and every other review site I can find to pick them.

Happy trails to you!
