Why Baja ?

Another very interesting thread to read. I will be keeping my eyes out for the blogs, pics, and words from those ladies Baja-ing it this winter! I have always loved reading about Carol's Mexican travels throughout the years on here, and it seemed as if she and hubby loved where they went. It's good to hear about places straight from the horses' mouths, so to speak! (Sorry ladies!) Some day I will have a passport, perhaps, and maybe get lucky enough to find another adventurous group of RVers heading south of the border.

Happy travels!

I loved Baja...drove the entire length to Cabo San Lucas and back. Once you get away from the border towns, the people are very friendly. I don't even go to Tijuana any more and they have a very good IMAX presentation that I used to take all my visitor to. The plants and flowers are very similar to the San Diego area. Have you ever seen a Boojum tree? The Baja is the only place in the world it grows. Ask me how it got its name. The beaches are great and food vendors come along and sell tamales which are fabulous. They sell fish too to cook on the bar-be-que. Every once and awhile you are stopped by 15 year old guards with real guns. Just do what they say and you are on your way.

The very best fish tacos are in San Diego tho.

Ok, I'll ask...? (It looks like a sickly pine tree).

It looks like an upside down carrot.

You'll enjoy Baja. I concur, that you wanna get south of the border towns ASAP. As a native SoCal girl, we often thought of Baja as an annex. There are many "greengos" in Baja all year around with lots of English speakers. Beaches are great, although Pacific ocean is cold. Food is great. But be careful of the drinking water. Can't wait to follow you all on your blogs.

So looking forward to the trip reports. I enjoyed the ones from Alaska last year. How I wish I had a rig and some time off, I'd tag along for the fun. Maybe next year or the next.

For anyone wanting early highlights - my trip to Baja last time is on my blog. That would have been winter of 2009-10.

OK Barbie, you are the only one who asked. Lewis Carroll wrote a book, The Hunting of the Snark. A very good friend of Lewis Carroll was Godfrey Sykes, a botanist. When Godfrey Sykes explored the Baja, and saw the Boojum trees he named them after the character in The Hunting of the Snark.
My brain is full of these little tidbits.

Very interesting! Wonder if he named anything after the characters in Alice In Wonderland? (Cheshire bush? Alice flower?)
