Great area for a GTG. I pass through that way or near it every time I go west. Going west is in my plans this year, so going or coming back east, will work for me. Latter part of Sept. for better weather might be best, but try for both, I might make both of them.

I love the idea of having the chance to meet more of you ladies that live everywhere !!!! GTG's are always fun and usually with so many adventuress minds we always have much to keep us busy, if we choose, among all the opportunities of socializing . A person to find the CG and set the date are of course the most important items. So far your choice of area is a really good one in my opinion. I like that area and a cheap nice CG with water sites, now that's Great !!!!

Thanks for taking on the tasks, you're doing good so far, Anyone who criticizes can always plan the next one :o

That's kind of my plan Beth, Head out in August and return back this way in Sept. Have some obstacles in the way of course, but by then, should be out of the way. Need a tow vehicle for my TT before I do anything and then need to figure out what to do about grass and such around here while I am gone. But will take it one step at a time.

This sounds really interesting and it's not that far. According to the map, it looks like about 750 miles. I will be getting a propane furnace put in my Scamp this summer so I can have a little longer camping season. Summers are to short here in Northern MN. I use an electric heater when I have a hook up, but I like to boondock also. I will have to see where my life takes me this summer and make plans from there.

We made this a sticky- which we only do when dates and locations are firm. Since they are not, we'll leave it for a day or two, but then unsticky it unless you amend the first post with dates, etc. Seems like there is a lot of interest, so firming things up would probably be good and allow people to plan that want to attend.

Does the campground have cabins? The dates are right during harvest season and I don't think I could get DH to go during that time. But I could probably talk Missy into driving in a car with me and it would cut the time that I would have to take off at work. Looks like it would be about a seven hour drive and between the two of us we could do it in a day easily.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Catherine....we need a date!!! I'm saying I'll be there but I talked to my jeep club friend today about a cruise we're doing in Feb and she's saying they might do a Panama 14 day cruise in the fall. Won't know about it until the spring, tho! I missed the last one, didn't have a roomie but I think I have one for this cruise. I need to contact her....

Sorry everyone, I hadn't seen this pop up in 'view active topics' so I wasn't aware there were new posts on it. Thanks for a friendly PM to move me to action.

Here's what I'm thinking...
Council Grove Canning Creek Campground - can't make reservations yet, but when we can I'd say aim for sites 38-47
Start Friday Sept 19 lasting as long as you all want. :D Although I'll probably head back to the city Sunday (ok, maybe Monday).
There aren't any cabins at the COE campgrounds. There is a hotel in town about 5 miles away.
Council Grove is about 2 hours SW from Kansas City.

My sister has recommended that I look at Tuttle Creek campgrounds also. These are close to Manhattan KS which is a nice college town with a little more to do than Council Grove. I'm going to try to run out there in the next week or so to take a look & see if I like it as well. It is about 2 hours directly west of Kansas City. I'll let you know what I think after I go. It is a COE also so I assume the rates will be the same - but I'll check that out too.

I'll update the first post of this thread with these specifics so its easy to find & will keep a closer eye on it.

I am sooooo excited!!!!

Catherine, the COE (Tuttle Cove) is very nice and $9 a night with Senior Pass. The State Park is great but costs more - it also has cabins and isn't far from Tuttle Cove. I stayed there a few summers before I discovered the COE. I can't say anything about shower facilities as I don't use them. COE sites aren't as close to the lake as the photo of Council Grove.

Glad you picked the dates you did because that means I can do it!!

Thanks for the info, Anita. I'm so glad you'll be able to make it.
I'll try to check out the facilities at Tuttle creek COE. Of course since some folks have asked about cabins I'll also look at the cost of the state park & see what folks think.

Thanks Catherine! That works for me as long as the cruise is later in the fall. If it even happens. As much as I love GTG's and all of you guys, I've been wanting to do a Panama cruise forever!

Maybe we need to talk about that cruise if it doesn't happen next year :)

A heads up that Kansas State has a home football game that weekend - the State Park can get very busy, but I don't know about the COE.
