Prayers Please for My Krissi

Postby monik7 » Fri Nov 15, 2013 9:42 am

My 14 1/2 yr. old cockapoo Krissi has had a couple occasions of back problems over the years. It's flared up again and hasn't responded as before to injections in her back. Yesterday she couldn't support herself with her back legs. The vet thinks she has a slipped disk that may be pinching her spinal cord. I've been carrying her everywhere and she's on 3 medications that don't seem to be helping much. She's able to stand this morning, but can barely walk. The only other thing the vet has suggested is a referral to a neurologist. At her age I can't justify subjecting her to surgery. I'm really afraid where this might lead. I have no better best friend than this dog. She's been through so much with me. I've loved and lost so many animals over many years, but it's not helping me to know what to do or how long to wait. I would be very grateful for any and all prayers.

Aw Sandi, I'm so sorry to hear about Krissi. It's so hard to see our babies suffer and try to figure out what's the best for them. Hugs and prayers for you both.

Oh Sandi, I am so sorry for your and Krissi's distress. I have said a prayer for her (and for you) just now, and am sending swarms of hugs and warm thoughts for both of you. I have been where you are, and just over the last few weeks, so I can relate.

I have no good answers for knowing what to do (there are none!), and am just now facing a set of difficult decisions with another of my older dogs.

Hopefully Krissi will be better soon.

May God bless you both.

Anne

Oh Sandi I am so sorry to hear this.(((Hugs)))) Is there by chance a vet in your area who does acupressure for dogs? We were lucky to have a vet who did that and she really helped my big guy. I will be keeping you both in my thoughts.

Oh Sandi, I'm so sorry. Figuring out the "right" time to let go is the most difficult thing to do. Its always a balance between your needs and her needs. My criteria is always "are they in pain" and do they have any quality of life. Its been a year since my Buddy crossed the Rainbow Bridge and I lasted two weeks before I rescued Baxter from a caged life. To me, the greatest compliment you can give your old pet is to rescue another one and give them a forever home.

Sandi:

Just now remembered this: MAKE SURE THAT THE MEDS YOU ARE GIVING TO KRISSI WERE MANUFACTURED IN THE UNITED STATES.

My boy has had an ongoing sinus infection for the past three months. Last Friday I heard on the news of a bad batch of antibiotics that were manufactured in India (!) and imported into the United States that were bad (weren't what they said they were on the label).

Imagine my shock when I looked at the package of antibiotics my vet had prescribed to my boy - who just continued to get worse - to find that they had been manufactured in Mumbai, India!!!

I went immediately to Google, and found the USDA website, where were posted SEVERAL letters from USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) that had been sent to this manufacturer about manufacturing violations.

The maker of the drug I had been using (Azithromycin) is from Wockhardt, Limited, of MUMBAI, INDIA!!!

I took my boy to another vet on Tuesday and was prescribed a different antibiotic, guaranteed U. S. manufacture, which I began on Tuesday. He does seem a bit better today (Friday) but this has been ongoing for so long it is probably too soon to tell. But I have hope.

Ask your vet if the meds you are using were manufactured in the U.S. - BE SURE THAT THEY ARE - I would even ask to see the original container, as so many individual prescriptions come in those little colored prescription bottles.

I will do a longer post about bad meds - imported meds that have NO effectiveness because they are not what they say they are - on another thread this weekend.

And it is not this one Indian manufacturer - there are many!!

Best wishes, Sandi, and hope this helps!!!

Sorry to hear this, Sandi. We had a mini dachshund that went through the same type of thing - disc pressing on spinal cord that caused inflammation. We were fortunate that meds helped. Sending you hugs and strength.
