Natchez Trace.

Sorry, no pics as yet. I've driven 1000 miles in three days and my head is reeling. But the Natchez Trace! Wow! It is something to experience. I stopped at a couple of the sites, but I need to go back. The road runs from Natchez thru Mississippi to Nashville in Tennessee. Well over 300 miles, and no traffic! There are Indian Mounds, Spring Caves, Historical Points, which are interesting, not like some I've passed that said, there used to be a cemetery here. These were really interesting. I want to do it again in the spring when the Dogwoods are blooming. It must be beautiful. I stopped at one point called Dogwood Valley. There were Dogwoods over 100 years old. Anyway, just wanted you to know I'm at Monte Sano State Park, in Huntsville, AL. will be meeting up with Bluepinecones. Pictures will follow, I promise.

It is a beautiful drive the entire distance. However, be warned that the north end leaving Nashville is filled with suicidal raccoons after dark. The little rascals seemed to be darting out from behind every tree and around each bend in the road - and there are a lot of both along that stretch. At least that was my experience a couple of years ago. Nearly wrecked the van more than once trying to dodge them.

Glad you made it okay - would love pics. I'm familiar with dodging deer around Kerrville - I try not to drive at dusk or dawn for just that reason. Used to be an abundance of armadillos here but the fireants have almost killed them off.

I love the Trace, I go there often, usually stop over at Jeff Bushy campground. There are 3 cg's on the trace and all are free. No hook ups but gorgeous parks and lots of trails and walking places. Maggie and I, stop whenever we go to and from Stephensville, Tx to the rodeo competition my son and grandson have been in past several years. There are very interesting stories at so many stops. Some you need to take a little hike and its more then worth it. One such hike found Maggie and I, at a grave site for a dozen or so confederate soldiers. What got me the most there, was someone keeps flowers on each grave. Artificial but not faded either. If you ever get a chance you will have a great trip there and no there is hardly ever any traffic, think a person could spend a couple of days, and find such peace there. Glad you enjoyed your trip on it Sparkle,hope you're feeling better. I'm anxious also to see your pics.

The Trace sounds wonderful. I have only passed the signs on the highway. I can't wait for your pictures either. The second best way to travel is through friends' pictures and adventures. I will also put it on my bucket list. Safe travels.

A number of years back Sunshinecruiser (Carolyn)and I worked together, and occasionally traveled together for business at some of our state parks. I don't think there's a road in Tennessee that Carolyn hasn't traveled on, and she couldn't believe that I had never traveled on Natchez Trace. Needless to say our next business trip to Pickwick Landing SP we traveled the Trace from Nashville until we reached the exit nearest the park. It was a gorgeous day and I do believe that we stopped at each and every stop/site possible, did some hiking, photographs, and just enjoyed. Good day driving down the Trace....good memories....and we were basically "driving to work" that day!!
