My Un-Dream Rig

I thought I would start a parallel discussion about things they put in an RV that are totally useless, at least in my opinion:

1) Outdoor entertainment system. I hate listening to other people's music and am sure they do not want to listen to mine. Never have used it.
2) Outdoor shower. I think the only time we have used mine was to wash off kids feet after visiting the beach. A bucket of water would have done a better job.
3) Ceiling surround sound system. Have seldom used it. Would not have ordered it but rig came with the system I have.

Anyone else have some useless things built in to their RVs that they could easily do without?

I laughed out loud at your subject line. Love it.

I, too, find the outside entertainment center a waste of space. High on my waste of space list for the same reasons.

I would like to have the outside shower - for Peaches. But have lived without it for all this time, so it's not something I have to have. However, I think those of us with dogs who get into messes, can see the usefulness of that one.

To me the overcab entertainment center is high on my list of useless space. Give me the storage the overcab bed makes, or make that space really for lightweight storage! With a swing arm tv - and I'm happy.

Even though I love to boondock, and thus don't have electric at those times, I'd much rather have a micro/convection combo and no rv oven than the micro and an rv oven. I quit using the oven long ago - even when boondocking. Again, would rather have a cabinet there.

And anything put in an rv that is to please the eye, but detracts from the usefulness of the space is a detriment to me. You can have both, maybe not to the extreme, but you don't have to take away.

Should have clarified about the ceiling surround sound. I have I have 7 speakers in the ceiling of my living room area. 99% of the time the TV and DVD player do not use these speakers. I also have one bigger speaker in the corner on the floor that I have threatened to remove.

I don't have the over-cab entertainment center. I have a bed there, and my TV swings out on an arm. I like being able to sleep a grandchild or two up there.

I was just giving my un-dream rig - not saying you had the things I dislike lol. I also don't need all those speakers - unless they put in really good ones, would rather have none. I have speakers in my cabinets over my bed - never have used them, waste of good space.

I'm also not saying that the things I really dislike might not be some of the things others do like ...

I have an outside shower, and have used it maybe once. Not to clean my dog, but to rinse dog poop off my shoe. (Not MY dog's poop.) But in my imagination, I might use it in Baja to rinse off salt water or wash hair....but then there will be Mitch's solar shower apparatus.

I agree about the oven, but will have to keep mine until I can change out the microwave for a convection/microwave. I like my bed over cab too for storage and visitors.

The bumper sewer hose storage is useless to me.

Don't need an outdoor kitchen or outdoor entertainment center. I set up a folding table under the canopy. Works well for whatever I drag along for that trip -- electric skillet, coffee pot, small convection oven on a folding table outside. It even works for the TV.

Yep, it's a bread box here, too....Hate the oven....want another cupboard instead....until then will keep using my convection/toaster oven...

Now we do use our "sound system" cause when it is really nice out we do alot of sitting out and enjoy listening to music while reading, etc....and with Ernie's hearing issues, when watching movies, he hears the dialog better with it....but we have a switch that can shut off the outside speakers when needed....

No outside shower here, but OR went 1 better instead....it's like an extra hot and cold water faucet which comes in handy for cleaning feet, washing large pots, and giving Spinner a bath when he rolls in "stinky" stuff..... It looks somewhat like a water hose nozzle...

Hate carpet and fuzzy ceiling. I have the outdoor shower and use it for Maggie's baths.
my TV is built into the cabinet and VERY difficult to access. I have the micro/convection combo which I like a lot.

My dinette is a half circle. In a camper of my size which really only accomodates two comfortably, it is too large. A sofa bed or recliner and tiny dinette would be more practical. I keep mine in bed mode all the time and use as sofa.

Yes, all the above. Never realized how much I'd hate a carpeted ceiling or floor until living with them. I HAD to have a stove with oven. Have never used the oven. Store my Tupperware there. I don't have this, but I also hate those mirrored ceilings with fancy swirls, etc. and crystal like chandeliers. I'd want to bring along a maid!

I dislike carpeting but my son in law John fixed that for me for mothers day have a wonderful laminate floor now… will sure try it out this winter and only use a dust mop!
I do not like the booth table… mine is a set up and take down one and fits under the couch… dislike how heavy the bed is to lift up and get under. they say it has hydrolic openers but I still cannot lift it...

I think a lot of this depends upon how you the individual use the RV. Someone full timing vs the weekend worrier have different needs. There are some high grade finishes that I have no desire for. I don't like the sink that look like bowls siting on the counter. Being of a larger size I'm not a fan of kitchen islands. I also am not a fan of the booth. When we went shopping for our unit there was a list of things we did not want:

1- Bed in the slide because there are no night stands. We have found that cabinets above the bed are also a pain in the head getting in and out of bed. Always have to remember to duck.

2- Don't understand the outdoor TV's.

3- Did not want the outdoor kitchen. Although it would be nice to have an outside fridge for drinks to save on ice for the cooler. We normally keep a drink cooler by the door stocked with Gator Aide, water, tea, kids drinks and a beer or two. Keeps people from running in and out of the camper.

4- Wanted the bathroom separate from bedroom and no toilet in a closet.

Due to certain health issues we found that some latches, like on fridges were easier to open than others.

Have used the outdoor speakers on rare occasion when we were alone in the campground. I don't like to disturb my neighbors.

We have used the oven from time to time but I wish it was much easier to light the pilot.

Didn't originally think the outdoor shower was worth much but it has come in handy rinsing off grandkids and for washing out the Dutch Oven.

We actually have more storage space than we need at this time but then again we do not live fulltime in it. The problem is remembering where we put things.

I appear to be one of the very few people who actually uses her oven. I insisted on having one and make cookies, bake bread and banana nut bread, roast meat, and a lot of other things. I do hate the way you have to bend over or get on your knees to light the pilot, but could not live without my oven.

I ditto the ceiling and the floor carpeting. Hate both.

Judy, I can do all those things in my convection oven albeit on a small scale.

I don't think I've ever seen carpet on the ceiling.
