Galveston Island St Pk

Had a mini GTG Friday night with Diana (MTNGIRL) and Ellen W. We had a great dinner and fun visiting. Sorry, we forgot to take any pictures.

I left Sat morning to go to Galveston to visit with Carole. Spent Sat nite at Goliad St Pk. Nice park but they forgot to tell me about the rodeo that night. I could hear the announcer very clearly until about 10pm.

Drove leisurely the next day to Galveston Island St Park. Carole is coming Monday morning. For some reason my GPS took me on a rather round about way including one street I was supposed to take for another two mile but the street was closed. So I did what I used to do before GPS, stopped at a gas station and asked directions. Pulled in about 4pm and took dogs for a walk on the beach. Weather pretty nice, around 70. Baxter wanted to chase the shore birds so bad.

I thought I was crazy traveling with two big labs. The people next to me have a 30' rig and have TWO St. Bernards. Such sweet dogs but drool SOOOOO much.

OK, found the separate post. Are you on the beach side or inland side? I like this SP. I stayed on the beach side last time, but think I'd go with the inland side next time. Both have their good points. Enjoy and say hi to Carole.

Just looked this state park up. What are advantages of bay versus beach?? Thinking of going there maybe in April.

Any suggestions on any other campgrounds in Texas???

And what is the weather like there in early April??

Early April can be gorgeous, can be windy, can be cold or warm (ask those of us who did the Port Lavaca gtg several years - never knew what to expect). It will always be a tad cooler on the beach (good in the summer) and usually windier. The campsites are more open - the advantage being you have the water view.

The bay side is more protected, and there are lots of places to hike/walk, which I really liked. Staying on either side you have access to all of the park. I elected to stay on the beach side coming through, but after checking out the bayside, realized I would have been just as happy, maybe happier there - and still could go over and enjoy the beach.

Carole is doing pretty well. Having maintenance chemo, two on, two weeks off. She tolerates it well and isn't sick. She continues to get more small tumors BUT her kidneys, lungs and liver are clear - so good new, bad news. Her doctor changed and increased her chemo to try and knock her tumors down. No pain, no sickness from chemo; actually feels pretty good. Sold her house in Kerrville and moved to Texas City to be nearer her family.

As for Galveston SP, I'm on the beach side. Only committed to two nights and may boondock (or plug in) at Carole's house. No one warned me their is a mosquito hatching - I must have killed 30 of the little buggers last night and didn't sleep well with their buzzing. Off to Walmart this am to get bug killer and Resolve to clean the bodies off my walls. I also had a big shiney Grackle about two feet from my rig at 6am. Noisy bird!!

Am really enjoying my Roadtrek. Decided on Friday morning to go to Galveston. Loaded and left Sat morning.

Sounds like a fun trip. Be sure and give Carole a hug for me, such a nice lady! Glad to hear she's tolerating the chemo well.
