TGIF!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

TGIF!

Postby carolb » Fri Nov 08, 2013 6:07 am

...not that it matters any to retirees, but for me, just 2 more days before I leave! Or I could invite bro over today, get him drunk, then just throw him in the HarBor & take off!

So good morning to all! :D Anita, great idea to pm Gayle! Anita "Google" as I call her, always knows the best way to use technology! ;) Liz, I loved the undie thread! Sounds like a great thing, but I also thought they implied "donating" used ones  Hey, we need to gtg before you leave FL--I'll be in Ocala Nov 15th...Red, yep, we'll be drinking 'ritas together soon!

Snow on the hill tops this a.m., but just rain down here in the valley. Thanks for sending your weather this way, Sue. Just don't be sending it south

BTW, the reason bro is going to FL is to see a space launch at Canaveral scheduled for Nov 18th. "MAVEN" is a probe being sent to orbit/investigate Mars. So bro, IL sis & I will be over there to watch it. Never seen a launch before. Anyone heard of this or planning to go???

Off for more coffee. I leave it to Lori to offer breakfast since she's such a good cook!!! Y'all have a great day & be safe always! 8-) (EDIT: Just sent a pm to Gayle! Hope we hear from her!)

Good morning, Carolb, and all that follow...

Chilly this morning...47F right now, but the warm up is coming.... ;) Nothing much planned for the day, but that's the beauty of being "Retired"....don't have to do anything but enjoy the day..... :D

Everyone is busy with stuff....Nan soon will be "foot loose and fancy free" from home ownership and after today hits the road....congrats!!

Carolb, we've seen a couple of launches, but never up close and personal....while in the area....it's very impressive.... ;)

Well, since Carolb has the coffee going, I whipped up some scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast for ya' all.....help yourselves....

Have a great day, all...

Mornin'!
Typically I just do coffee in the morning but mentions of various breakfast inspired me to make apple pancakes two days ago and asparagus wrapped with prosciutto with an egg on top this morning. So good but alas I ate the whole thing.

Celebrating my friend's birthday tonight at Marina Jacks. Saturday a cousin is passing through so will do brunch with him. Sunday morning is a walk thru Selby Gardens with another friend. Sunday afternoon is sailing with my children and a young former associate visiting here from CA. Whew!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Good Morning ladies,

And in the news this morning, northern Michigan, well this area anyway, gets second blanket of snow for this early winter season
Image

it won't last long though as the ground is a tad too warm yet, but after living here for 36 years, I know that after the next one, it will be here to stay. So Carolb, you had better get that bro of yours into Harbor and hit the road. I'll be thinking of you and all the others who are already there or heading to sunny FL and all the fun you are having this winter. No, I haven't heard about that space probe. Should be exciting to watch. Maybe some day I will catch one.

Thanks for breakfast Lori, you always do such a bang up job of making breakfast for everybody.

Not much doing around here today, same old. Will be venturing out later on to head to stores and what not up town. Am kind of thinking of baking some of my butter cookies for Christmas since I am leaving in early December and don't have the equipment I need up there. Will freeze them and take them along. Also have a batch of butternut squash to cook up and freeze as well and thought that a beef stew in the crockpot, probably tomorrow, would be good on a cold day. So need to get the ingredients for it all. Well, have the squash already :)

Sarah, read your news on you neice. Not good, but will keep her in my prayers. We all know what the power of prayer can do on this site.

Mitch, love the blog you started. Know you are going to have a great time and we will be waiting for the pictures of Pedro of course

Lots going on with everybody right now it seems, can't keep track of it all. For those of you who are new to this forum, I want to extend a ""Welcome" to all of you. Like Sarah, I am behind on reading the Introduction thread. Hope to see you posting and meet you on the road somewhere. Have a wonderful day everyone.

WARNING! This is a whine! I was gone all day yesterday and came home to find the supply line to a commode had broken and flooded a bathroom. So today I am trying to dry out the drywall with a fan and hoping I can get by with just repainting the wall. I talked to my builder last night regarding some major repairs I need to do due to water damage from a fierce storm last spring, and he told me that he had a customer with a broken supply line to an upstairs bathroom that caused $60,000 damage! They were gone on vacation and the kitchen cupboards fell off the wall and the sunken living room was full of water! So I guess I should count my blessings! It seems water and I don't get along......and I live on a lake!

Some times I envy you full timers!

Good Morning!

Carol, I love the idea of tossing your bro in the Harbor so you can hit the road! I was in Titusville across the bay for the 1969 launch of the first moon walk.

Sue, beautiful snow photo.

Yesterday I saw an unusual 'lump' in a nearby site. All of a sudden it moved - a turtle! I have heard the sandhill cranes but haven't seen them yet this trip. Turkeys walked by my site - a first. Today I must walk down to the lake to see if the alligator is on the far bank still.

I am working my way through a list of things to do and loving that I won't travel more than 2 hours at a time until February. I have so many things to catch up on, but will be finding time for some GTGs! :D

Have a good day everyone!

Good Morning all. I am a very busy bee this week. After taking the summer off (ya know camping, GTG's, etc) it is time for me to take an assignment and replenish my "slush" fund. I have changed Travel Companies so that involves a mountain of paperwork and testing (annual for us nurses). I spent ALL day yesterday getting my annual physical, TB test, drug screen, etc. I actually spent more time in the waiting rooms than I did actually getting the stuff done. I still have lots of online testing to complete but can do that this coming weekend. Laura (CougarFan) is coming to visit me for the weekend so I am looking forward to her visit.

I am heading to the Santa Barbara area. Will be staying in Buellton by "Pea Soup Anderson" ha ha I haven't spent much time in this area so I am looking forward to it for sure. Will be nice to not have to deal with so much rain. I need to do some exploring around there also, so I am pretty happy. I should have time as I only work 3 nights a week so will leave lots of days off.

Good morning everyone. Karen, I love that Split Pea Anderson's restaurant. Used to stop there every time we headed north. Glad to know its still there. Carol, I can picture you throwing bro in the van  You know where we'll be Dec 1-15. So hope we can gtg. Sue, that snow looks so pretty and peaceful. Joan, I grew up sailing off the coast of SoCal. You'll love it. Anita is in FL already and having fun in the sun. Can't wait to gtg in Dec :P

We have a lot of new members and I've tried to welcome everyone. There are some pretty fun threads recently and I wonder what newbies think of the group as they read about undies, nudist camps and Pedro??

I'm flying out the door getting in RED and heading to Livingston for the weekend of driving school. I'm already tired. Tyler woke the whole house this AM at 3 wildly barking at something through the dining room bay window. I turned on the porch light and there was that black and white kitty sauntering down our entry walkway. When it saw me in the window, it's tail went up and I'm guessing it sprayed the window. :( I closed the door to our end of the house to keep Tyler away from the window. He whined and paced for an hour before settling down. So I'm ready for a nap :P

Everyone have a great day and stay safe. Aloha

Good Morning, everyone!

I'm sitting in my classroom trying to muster the energy to get through this last work day of the week. Fridays are busy, busy, busy -- not at all like I like to end the week. But we'll get through it, and then I have a 3-day weekend. :)

Karen, Buellton is ... Buellton. Nothing there except for Anderson's AND the restaurant featured in the movie "Sideways" -- great steakhouse. The campground you're staying at (I'm assuming that you're going to be at Flying Flags) is very nice -- all the amenities and within walking distance of Anderson's. But it can be very, very windy, so beware. Solvang is a cute little town, but very touristy and rolls up the sidewalks at 6:00. They specialize in bakeries, and Birkholm's is the best. Love it! There are a couple of little parks in the area with nice walking trails, and several thoroughbred horse farms. Wineries have also flourished in the area in recent years, too. You're about 30 minutes from the north end of Santa Barbara and 2 1/2 hours from outskirts of L.A. I'm about 3 hours from Buellton (hint!). To the north is Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, and Pismo Beach. All very fun little cities. And you're not too far from Cambria, on the coast, which is a lovely town.

You'll love the area -- you'll be there in the "green" season, so it's going to be gorgeous. And being just a bit inland will keep you from the fog that can blanket the coast at times.

Enjoy!

Yes, TGIF....I love it altho I've been retired for 19 years. I had an enjoyable day yesterday showing a friend all the nooks and crannys of the new library. It was all paid for when it opened about a month ago. (the little brick I bought helped that) It is an architects dream and Judi (from Portland) if you ever get down here I will share it with you!!!
A little shopping today on the schedule. Nothing much else.
I scheduled myself to watch a lift-off one year. However, it was canceled and I never go another chance to see one. Lucky those of you who do get to see it. My ex worked on the Atlas missile and he never saw a lift-off either.
Sue, the picture you posted was beautiful! Love the black and white.
Lots going on in the Forum....have a great day. lyn

WOW thanks for all the info on Buellton and surrounding area. I am pretty excited as I have never spent much time there. I have a fellow RV Travel Nurse working just up the road in Santa Maria so that should make for some good visiting. She is all dialed in to the great places to eat LOL And yes I am going to be staying at Flying Flags. I will be working in Lompoc but didnt find anywhere to really stay there and it is only 16 miles away.

Lyn, yes maybe we could meet in the "middle" while I am there. Would love to see you again.

Red, was that a kitty cat or a kitty skunk? Could have been a repeat incident!!!

Kathleen, so glad your family is helping you drive to FL. A warm winter visiting friends. Can't be better than that!
