Hey Soos!

Sounds like down here. The second winter we were here we got hammered with a big snow storm. It dumped probably 18" on us. They freak out down here if they even hear the word snow, when we got that much snow everything came to a grinding stop!!!

We were 2 weeks without power. Thank the Powers that be that we are tent campers so that I had a campstove to cook on, sleeping bags, lanterns, candles and because I'm a silly Yankee??? I brought a large kerosene heater with us. LOL But the very worse part of it was the fact I had 3 teenagers in the house! OMG!!! 2 of them were mine and the other was a friend of David's. I shagged them out the door as much as I possibly could. At least I did until they had nothing left to wear. Had stuff hanging up all over the place!!!

When David's buddy said his parents had power again?????!!!!!! Oh goodness I took that boy home. Whew!

I thought I was gonna lose my sanity. Or kill a kid!

Sounds like so much FUN , Echo! NOT! You really experienced storm life first hand!

But after all is said and done, it does give one a sense of pride to know you can survive and improvise. I think it was the aloneness that really got to me, as I so wished could have had someone to talk to, and play cards and games with, etc.---- But it was just me and Blizzard and Yoda and Twitch and Velcro and Pumpkin back then-----two dogs and 3 cats!

I now have bought me a crank-to-charge radio and a couple of crank flashlights, too----in case batteries run out! Of course, with a generator and rechargable batteries, that shouldn't happen, anyway!

HERE....some logs for this fire while I go get some more hot coffee!!!

We lost power for several days during the "Storm of the century." That was before RV, and being in FL, were totally unprepared for such an event and the freezing temps...everything ran off elec. We had no propane, no wood stove, no heat, nothing...had to move out & in with my mother who had power. I feel much better prepared for such an event today with my little rv.

The main problem with this area and the storm is, it was so massive and hit such a large area where people just aren't prepared because it just never happens. No one would imagine they would need propane, water, food, gas, wood etc much less for such an extended period. In some places may be a month before power is restored!
So...if anyone is traveling in any of the states that were hit, be sure you have enough fuel and cash. Many stations have no gas and others are without power. Also you can't use a credit card because the machines need power, and they can't call it in as phones are out.
They were saying on Fox news today that many people are staying in their homes even though they have no heat etc because they won't leave their pets.

Oh yes, you described it perfectly. I remember crying a lot when i heard the trees breaking. I love my pine trees, and it was the middle of the night when I woke up to hear that so I couldn't see what was happening. Not sure my sanity is intact either,... haha....

Ahhhhhh!

Just threw a few pieces of wood on the fire. Oh jeeze that feels great. No ice and snow here. It was a beautiful day. Ran around for the most part in jeans and t-shirt. Now for the rest of the weather. LOL Suppose to rain tomorrow then snow on Tuesday. What's that saying about if ya don't like the weather just wait a bit and it will change?? ;)

Got my chores done today. Got supper fixed and ate. It was good too. Yummmmm :D Got rent paid too. Told the landlord that we are moving out the middle of April. He acted like and said he was really bummed out. Said he was really sorry to hear that we were moving. Last month when I paid rent I thanked him for the gift card to Lowes that he sent for X-mas. He then thanked me and said that he really appreciated us as tenants as he never had to worry about trying to chase us down for the rent. He's been a really decent landlord. Doesn't bother us or check up on us. As far as I know he has never come around snooping or anything like that. Hate like fire to pay the rent and utilities for the full month of April as we will be out April 18th or 19th. But oh well. Wish we could just go the first of April but ya'll know how it is? Money, money and money again. ~sigh~

I'm just gonna sit snuggied up in my blankie, watch the flames and drink my coffee. No Baileys tonight. I'm a drinking it straight tonight!!!

Fire sure does feel good to me, as the sun goes down on another day that stayed in the single digits!

I am sipping a beer, after bringing in a ton of wood, and I'm leaving some logs here for all of you as it sure does seem that more of you are cold today than ever before! I have on long undies and three other layers of clothes, so I feel quite comfy right now! I might have to change to some hot buttered whiskey (no rum in the house) instead of beer for the next round!

Thanks for keeping the fire going!

I have no idea how many miles I drove today. All I know is my head is spinning. I'll be seeing that center line in my dreams. I've had a couple of Bourbons and Ginger...the first was for thirst, of course, the second for sipping.

I can remember those days of drinking whiskey and sipping on sprite, uh, lets see,
August 8, 1990, I was on my honeymoon  now that I've parked my butt near the
fire, I'll just give it a stir and enjoy my cranberry juice.

"The snowstorm of the century" that was mentioned a ways back----was that the one in "93
'??? If so, I had just moved to Tn. the summer before and left 3 snow shovels in Illinois because everyone in Tn. said we wouldn't need them. I lived on a street of fairly new duplexes. No one on our street had a snow shovel. I helped dig one guy out with my little fireplace shovel. A couple days later I made it to Walmart because they said they had snow shoves---SURE---little kid ones. !! What a joke. I bought one and I also bought a garden shovel and my neighbor and I shoveled out our shared driveway!! We still laugh about it. His wife and little boy had a blast in the snow---they pulled him around on the garbage lid!! They had just moved from Florida.

The snow shovels get used very seldom in Tn., but I have a couple in case I need them!! I also have a sled that I have had for about 10 years that has never seen snow!! HA

I tried to find some wood for the fire but that is hard to do in the desert!!! LOL I am snuggling up to the fire and I threw a couple pieces on from the pile. It is a little cool here this morning but sure not cold compared t o the rest of you.

Good to see you around the fire, Fernie! Funny story about TN snow!!!

I will put some logs in the pile to keep this fire going, as I suspect it will feel very very good before February is over. Yesterday's weird warm temps were NOT normal!

Molly always loves to curl up near any fire at any time of the season----I am sure she's part Dingo, if not totally Dingo. She looks exactly like what they call "Carolina Dingos," the only really wild canines on the North American Continent that aren't coyotes, foxes, or wolves. She is a lover of warmth.

Happy Sunday to you all, and keep us informed about what you're doing as we LOVE to share experiences!
