Driving a car, I'll turn on the radio or put in cd's. Funny thing, when in my rv, I don't turn on anything. The only noise, other than rattles and the engine is the GPS and me arguing. I like to hear the rv and road noises ... more important to me than in a car.

I seldom play anything when I'm traveling in my motorhome either. The engine and the rattles make so much noise that the radio would have to be turned way up. I even have my GPS muted which gets me in trouble when I forget to pay attention to the screen. I got tired of the recalculating. lol

I hate unnecessary noise, it hits a nerve I can not explain!

I never turn mine on until there's a traffic jam - of course, by then it may be too late to avoid the mess! Listened to the 'chatter' when we first started full timing just to see what was out there - didn't take long to figure out it was garbage for the most part.

I have a cb, cobra, and it's usually turned on. Comes in handy when I'm passing a truck, he looks in his mirror and realizes there's a girlie driving that big ole rv...as he's looking he's drifting over and taking his half out of the middle. cb helps to get his attention back on the road. Doesn't happen so much any more, but when I started driving 9 years ago happened a lot. We're EVERYWHERE now..kind of like zombies!

Anyway...if you don't have cell service you're probably not gonna have cb either. The range on them is pretty short and if you're in a forest, pretty much line of sight. There's another kind of radio you can get, our jeep club uses it. I can talk to them from 15 miles away. They're pretty expensive, but I can get the name if you're interested. CRS has kicked in and my radio is in the rv.

Any kind of static or unnecessary noise makes me crazy. If I want music I plug in my iphone. Noise pollution causes stress!

Yes, I would like to know. Many/most of the places I will be traveling to - at least at first -
will be high-altitude (3,000 ft and above) sometimes forested, sometimes not.

Thanks.

Got one when I first started RVing but only used it once. Think a cell phone probably has better signal when off the highways. If you're really concerned, how about a satellite phone?? I, too, hated the chatter on the CBs. Plus, my cell phone has GPS.

I had a cobra CB radio installed on my truck. Only turn it own when I want to ask question about traffic etc.
