Carolb mentioned this film in MC so I thought I'd see what links i could find on it to share.
Beth, I found that you posted something about it in 2010 - and mentioned that it highlights some of the real RV pioneers so I stole your phrase.

Roam Sweet Home is a road-trip documentary about the lives of retirees who live on the road full-time in trailers, due to economic necessity, pleasure, or both. Filmmaker Ellen Spiro and her dog, Sam, join a community of American nomads in order to explore their unconventional lifestyle first hand.
Through Spiro’s innovative and interpersonal style of filmmaking she captures the spirit of the roamers and the wide variety of reasons they abandoned the more traditional means of retirement. One group of women discusses the thrill of independence and sheer freedom they discovered after escaping repressive relationships. Another expounds upon the pleasures of traveling unencumbered throughout the country.
The film is narrated by Spiro’s dog, Sam, as he shares his perspective on the whims and follies of human nature. Aging himself, Sam adds an emotional perspective through his musings on death and the journey through life.

My aunt is in it. Yes, our family is full of originals, one-of-a-kind characters.

I bought the DVD a few years ago to make sure someone in the family had one. I'll try to make sure & always have it with me at GTGs so we can have 'movie' night. Or stop by my house, park in the driveway & stay awhile - at least long enough to watch this little film.

I'd love to see that so maybe will find you at a GTG or show up in your driveway some day.

Wish we could get someone to do an updated version. Everything you see on TV shows either million dollar ridiculous motorhomes, or talks about all those poor seniors who are living on the road because they can't afford an apartment and how lonely and broke they are. Make us look like we are living under a highway underpass. Have not yet see a realistic film on what this life is really like.

Who did I give my copy to? I passed it on to have it passed on again and again ... so it's out there somewhere, I hope.

Well worth watching.

And, Catherine, that is so kewl that your aunt is in it. I only know someone through someone else (friend of a friend, in other words).

That would be fabulous! And I don't know that a script is necessary - just have him 'hit the road' a little, experience some of our GTGs & do some indepth interviews. After I saw JudyJB's comment last night, I've been thinking how a documentary chronicling this group would be fabulous. We have enough characters to make it interesting and if someone could show the independence we each experience, the wonders & trials that are encountered on the road, while still supporting each other & the caring & laughter we have along the way, we'd have a great update. It probably won't make a ton of money (don't tell him that part) but it might develop its own cult following just as Roam Sweet Home has.

And my invitation stands, if you're passing thru this way, stop on in & we'll have a movie night.

And yes, Sarah - this will definitely be shown at the Midwest GTG.
