Make a lip to a height you figure will work and glue it and screw it on there.....

Why not install a piece of trim on the bottom bunk, similar to the top bunk?

That could work, but when my BFF travels with me, that's her area. She refuses, for some odd reason, to sleep with me in the front big bed. And she also refuses to switch with me (she's VERY tall and I'm very short). A piece of trim would make sitting on the lower bunk, or getting out of it, painful.

I think I'll try the baby gate, and then the strap things, dang - which I forgot to buy today! Darn.
