Hi Judy, Glad you are near your son during this stressful time. Also glad that you are in a "city". Kidney stones can be a very painful happening! Keep us posted as we wish you good results with the procedures. lyn

Glad the news is good. I have had the surgery you've described. First off, you are very wise to stay & be near family, friends & the hospital... it would be really bad to be in a isolated area should the stone block the ureter... The stent part can be uncomfortable or really uncomfortable... I think it's different for everybody. When they finally removed it, I was in tears afterwards as towards the end of the 2 weeks it was really irritating & I felt really stressed. No infection but was given some sort of medication after the removal. When it was over I just wanted to hug the doctor, but hugged the nurse instead. I think after going through all the pain from the kidney stones (I had more than one), I was just relieved to finally get the surgery over with. You will be fine. I was told to drink fresh lemon juice, orange juice & lots of water in my diet. Seems the acidity in those drinks help keep stones from forming. Get the surgery over with so you can move on in your life... safely & without pain. Wishing you the best....

Got my date of November 7. It is a little too far away, but that gives me a couple of weeks to head out and do some exploring of a couple of COE campgrounds.

I've had kidney stones since 1976--passed my first one at Dinosaur National Park but did not know what it was then. Had major kidney surgery with 7" incision in 1977 to remove large stone in right kidney. That was in pre-lithotripsy days. Spent 2 horrible weeks in a horrible hospital with a lot of pain. Then had three lithotripsies since then, but this is the first stent, so I am nervous about that.

Now off to see the orthopedic surgeon about my sore knee to see what mischief that doctor can cook up!! Also will get some info on my trigger finger. Falling apart I guess.

My Ohio son says I form stones like an oyster!

Judy says sorry you have to go through this... A few years ago I had a kidney stone Block the ureter
I ended up with a blood infection and spent 10 days in the hospital... Dr also put in a stent
The spent cause a lot of pain and irritation After a couple of days I remembered One time when I had a bladder infection That doctor gave me a little red pill to help with the irritation pain and the feeling you had to go to the bathroom all the time... So I ask my urologist About it and he said I have something even better So he prescribed another pill for me That was a great relief for all those symptoms.. You will have all these symptoms and you will need something. Be sure and ask for this pill Any urologist should know about it... I was asleep when they put a stint in I had it in for 2 weeks then got the kidney stone zaped...prayers for your speedy recovery

Thanks, Donna. I will be sure to ask for antibiotics, pain meds, and that little pill. Did not know about it, but that is good information to pass along. Got 15 days reservations here at Napa EXPO so I will have a nice, pleasant, comfortable, if very expensive place to recover. (I guess considering that I have very good insurance and hardly any copays, I can afford a little luxury camping for that time. I think it is important to have full hookups and satellite TV when you are in pain.)

Orthopedic guy said my bionic knees looked fine in the x-ray, and he suggested physical therapy. I will go a couple of times to get what to do, but will not hang around for a lot of trips there. He was pleased with the fantastic bend I have in that knee as a result of the one fall!

Sorry to read about your troubles here Judy; as others have said though, good to be near family. The Napa Valley is so beautiful in the fall, hope you can enjoy it while you get back on your feet!

Sorry you have to go thru this Judy but very happy to learn problem wasn't something worse.

Stones are no fun, that's what I have heard, anyway, and I hope to never get any. However, stones are much better to deal with than the big Cancer. Happy to hear all is clear of tumors, and now will send strength to you for getting those stones pulverized so you can again hit the lonely trails fearlessly! Glad you will have family to help you through the treatments, too. Take care and have fun exploring before you get to the stint!

Glad you are close by family and getting everything fixed up. I found a video online that a physical therapist made about trigger thumb. He showed how to massage and bend your thumb. I tried it with great success. Maybe that will work for you.
