National Park Campground Reservations

You know all those reservations that were cancelled because of the shutdown? Mine included for last week? Well, Yosemite is notoriously difficult to get into. Normally you need reservations months in advance and they fill up on the opening day.

So I checked today and found out they have sites available in the popular campgrounds!! I made a reservation for four days starting 9 days from now.

So if there is some place you could never get into, you might want to check Recreation.gov because they have spaces available.

Makes you wonder if they lost all the reservations when they shut the systems down. Glad you got a chance to get in.

Hey Judy! You will be in my back yard; but sad to say I will be on the road to Texas by then. :(

FYI, recreation.gov held my reservations for Zion through the time they were offline.

What they did was cancel all reservations that started during the shutdown. So, if you had a reservation starting last Sunday, it got cancelled, even if was supposed to be two weeks long. So, the remainder of those two weeks is now up for grabs. They made the assumption, which could have been false in some instances, that if you reserved for two weeks and the first few days were during the shutdown, you would not want to come for the remainder of your reservation.

So, my reservation was supposed to go from Oct 7-14, and the whole thing got cancelled on Oct 7.

If your reservation started after the shutdown ended, it was not affected.
