Judy, glad that you found a site that would work. Will be thinking of you as you try to get all the tests done, questions asked and keep your body glued together and moving on down the road....

Reading all this stuff about health care makes me wonder what this Obama thing might do to my Medicare and my supplemental health insurance by the Empire Plan of NY State. I have no clue what is going to happen, when it will happen, if it will happen, and how anything that might or does happen will affect me. I just keep my fingers crossed that I can keep on with the plan I have had since I got Medicare and am paying for out of my Social Security check each month.

And, if that social security check doesn't show up this month, I am doomed----literally doomed to not get bills paid. No food, no services, no supplemental health insurance, no nothing if SS gets pushed aside. Now I am wishing I had been able to keep all that money that was taken from my paychecks all these years under my mattress. Obviously it is making no interest whatsoever, so I may as well have had it in my own little hands. Also, I will not be able to go to FL this winter if SS is not paid. At least here I have a house with a budgeted fuel oil paid up, and some firewood to stay warm. I can use tons of candles I have amassed over the years for light at night. What I will eat is yet another thing. And if I need health-related anything, it won't be there. Any serious health issue could be the end of me at this point if my insurance quits or costs more with no more income. Why on earth did I work all these years and obey all the laws and regulations and try to make sure I could afford to retire some day if now nothing is there? My NY State Retirement check will certainly not carry me through the rest of my life without SS.

Talk about depression----I am almost beyond being able to even bother getting out of bed some days. I am sick about worrying about all of this stuff. Come spring, I know the asshole govt. will want me to pay income taxes -----I guess with little or no income, I might not have to pay ever again. But I still have property taxes and car/trailer insurance and house insurance. Where on earth will that come from? Do I really need a phone and a TV and internet? Do I really need electricity and natural gas? Do I really need clean water? Do I really need gas for my truck? Can I eat snow and drink melted ice? Shall I have to get rid of my dogs? Without Social Security and health insurance, I am dead in my tracks.

Ack, ack....Soos, slow down and take a breath. Don't borrow trouble that isn't here. One step at a time. I do have to say that I have often appreciated that my retirement is all from the State teachers Retirement......I will get no SS. This will work for me as long as some fool doesn't try to mess with the state retirement systems here in Ohio. I will be eligible for Medicare when the time comes.....

Soos, don't borrow trouble! My SS was deposited yesterday - on schedule. As far as your insurance, you should hear from the insurance provider/Medicare if there is a change. I have already received my letter.

Soos, they would never get by with not sending out SS checks. Millions of people would be on the streets starving to death, so that won't happen. You will be fine!

I just read that the States may be able to open up (and pay for) the National Parks. They are losing millions of dollars in state revenue because of the parks being closed.

My SS has not been paid to me since July. They got it in their computers that I am working at a high paying job. I filed an appeal but they take months to process. When I rec'd a letter recently, I went to their office but the woman said she could not discuss my claim until the shutdown ends. No SS till it is straightened out.

Soos, don't think you have to worry about your SS check yet.

You might want to be thankful you don't live in AL for insurance however:

I received the following email from a friend in Illinois, seems like AL won't be the only place seeing increases. We are still waiting to hear what our options are, all we know so far is the insurance we now have is no longer going to be an option....

"The BCBS site STILL does not recognize me as a member and the PDF forms that give specific information on the plans do not work, but I can tell that in order to keep the same plan in 2014 that I have now, my premiums will increase from $435 per month to $645 per month. I still don't know if we must buy the dental coverage that includes pediatric services. That would be an additional $55 per month. I can keep the same premium, but will have to go into a much more limited PPO network, take a higher deductible and assume 100% of expenses before the deductible is met instead of 80%.

So after Obamacare was passed in 2010, we've had our premiums increased 25% in 2011, 15% in 2012, 17% for this year, another 7% for the last 2 months of 2013 and now a 48% increase (at least) for 2014. That's a 166% increase in our premiums in four years"

I wonder what happened to these promises :!: :?:

BJ - My BCBS does NOT include dental, vision, or hearing. Dental can be purchased but there are no plans offered in any form that cover vision or hearing unless you work for (or retired from) the government.

If I want to keep my same supplemental coverage, I'll pay 185% more - but that is still only $205 a month which is nothing compared to what some of you are paying!

Sad to say that in the last 5 years I was working I served on our insurance committee that reviewed our options every year. Insurance companies are for profit.....

Every year the committee had choices between dropping services that had been covered previously, increasing our deductibles, charging a flat fee for ER visits, increasing our premium costs (the increases proposed always seemed to be in the mid to high teens... :? ) And we were suppose to feel thankful that we still had coverage and we were all told how our ill coworkers (the nerve of them getting cancer) or wanting bariatric surgery to get their sugar levels in line. (weight loss surgery was one of the first to go....after several of the staff had theirs completed...)

So insurance is screwed up...but I am thinking that the companies are trying to take advantage of loop holes to maintain their profits... And then I remember how many folks have stock in their companies and would complain if the dividend check went down. Everyone wants their profit unless it hits them directly.

Made it to Checota, Ok with air (brakes), and step motor installed. Crabtree RV in Alma, Ar went above and beyond to get me in. Great service and really nice group of people. Nice little PA park here, clean and quiet. P/T, 50A, f/h, 25 bucks for 2 nites. Driving up to Tulsa tomorrow to see my dad and uncle. It's only 70 miles a nd there aren't any parks in Tulsa. Well, there's one but I won' t stay there. I'll post the info on this park after I leave. This is the home of Carrie Underwood and the owner here told me where to find it. I think I had the right house when I went out exploring. Not much inthe way of restaurants, tho. Went for Mexican and got it to go.

DIL gave me 2 bottled Mudslides, it's time to open one!
