First solo trip

Come on in and say hello.

First solo trip

Postby Lesmusic1 » Tue Oct 08, 2013 3:58 pm

Hi...I'm a solo rver and taking my first trip by myself in 2 days. I'm looking for support from other women that do the same...solo rving....

I have put off a few trips due to being by myself....i'm nervous. Got everything ready except the furnace won't light....reading everything I can to try and fix it.

Any words of encouragement? I know I'll be fine but still feel nervous.....Looking forward to solo tripping more often.

Let us know what area of the country you are in. There are members all over so someone might be in your area. You never know when there will be a GTG(get together). Check out that thread. I live in South Louisiana and camp/travel with my sister some.

Welcome.

Without more info on the furnace problem, it's hard to diagnose. Do the blowers come on? If they do and it's not lighting, make sure your propane tank is on. If both those work, I call maintenance. If the blowers aren't coming on either, then are the batteries on?

I know I was a little nervous on my first trip - solo with my 2 dogs. Everything went fine and I found I wasted time and energy being nervous. Where are you now and where do you plan to go on this first trip? Also, what kind of rig do you have?

Welcome to the forum. What Beth suggested regarding the furnace. Past the simple things like making sure the propane has been turned back on after someone filled it last, I don't mess with propane but let the professionals tell me. :)

Get that settled and then hit the road, so you can start having real adventures and experiences. You can start collecting your own true stories of "What went wrong!" instead of working on all the imagined things  that never happen.....

Just make sure that you share your stories and pictures with us. We laugh and cry and drink our glasses of wine to keep you company, either in person or through the internet. With wine involved, some of us are not all that picky.

I live in the Portland, Oregon area and am heading south to Weed, Ca to see my daughter. I have a 23ft Ford Midas motorhome...she is small but in great shape and very cute.

On my furnace, I'm doing all the steps to find out what is wrong. I'm getting gas to frig and stove so it's not the gas regulator....I'll just be alittle cold for this trip...lol. I'm leaving Thursday morning so no time to fix it before.

I am looking forward to making other fellow female Rv ers..

..
When my furnace wouldn't light/work, I finally deduced it was the thermostat (thermostat was for heat only, not A/C)
New Hunter (I think) thermostat (easy install and inexpensive) and furnace was good to go.

Hoosier Welcome :D

We have friends who live in the Portland area. Pretty city.

As for the furnace and other "hiccups" to come, won't life be boring without them? It's part of the adventure

And if you are camping with electric available use a small electric cube heater. Few of us run our propane for heat when we can use the cg electric without additional cost to us. :)

Welcome Les from SoCal! Another single rv'er, hope to meet you one of these days. Need to find out where Weed is and how far from me! LOL Never know when the whim will hit to go there! LOL!

You can sing, girl...I just checked your Facebook page. I hope you have room in your rig for your keyboard.

Don't be afraid to take off on your new adventure by yourself. I took my first big trip this past July ...drove from TX to OR alone and it really was much easier than I had anticipated. Regarding the lack of heat I would take BirdbyBird's suggestion and get a small electric unit. I have one and it works great. I use it more than I use my propane heater. I got mine at Walmart...very inexpensive.

I am in Wilsonville, outside of Portland, and there is a Camping World across the highway from me (I-5). You could stop by there and let them look at your unit. I am taking my rig in tomorrow as I had smoke coming out of my water heater. Tried cleaning it but it still smokes so I am without hot water.

Hope we see you at one of the "get togethers." You could be our entertainment or maybe get us all to sing around the campfire. Fun!!
